Hard to believe...

...it is 60 degrees F in Memphis this morning. You put up with all my crabbing about the heat, it is only fair to mention the return of decent weather. I wore long jeans and a turtleneck for my walk this morning. Thanks be to God!

...that 500 point drop in the Dow, honey?

I swear you must look it as an opportunity. Black Monday, 1987, is the day I called my husband and said, "We need to buy stock! Now is the time for the little guys like us!"

Of course, *I* wanted to buy IBM, but he didn't listen to me. There was this local guy doing stock reports on WREC at the time. Allan called him and bought Hunter Fans ( at around $3 something which we sold a few months later for $15), Walmart ( which split three times before we gave to our son), Federal Express( which also split) and Maybelline, for under $5 and we sold later for $20 something.

That was how we first got into the stock market --- with a tiny bit of money from a bond we bought years before to help my church pay off a debt. It paid off a couple of weeks earlier. A Sign from God or what?

...an hour later...

Just got off the phone with our finance person. I checked our portfolio and noticed some dividends collected close to the same amount of money we invested back in 1987. Another sign from God! We are buying a Parnassus Fund , the Parnassus Equity Income Fund,  with top three holdings in Microsoft, Google and Johnson & Johnson. Now I ask you, is there a more perfect fund for us?

So --- as those angels are always saying in the Bible stories, "Be not afraid."

Addendum;
Just got a call from a friend whose husband is working for a company that will close it's doors in November.  Sometimes it is harder to be not afraid.
