It's really cool to be enjoying my job so much now. I've solved the stupid paperwork thing that held everything up for a couple of months and have gotten over my fear of them firing me in the next five minutes, and am really enjoying the work.
I so enjoyed the visit from
gardengirl1 this past weekend! We got along like we never were apart. It was a "severe" rave in that the weather was absolutely terrible - 50's, cold, rain and lots of mud, which really just made the whole thing exhausting. The setup, sound quality, DJs and music were tremendous, as expected from this globally respected event. It was memorable and defining in terms of a rave, even after all I've been to. It was cool to take Etienne there and have him ultimately dancing away, saying, "I get it, I get it!" after a long slog through mud trying to get our bearings and find where we wanted to be. I have a lovely, colorful snapshot memory of us all at the end, dancing in unison to DJ Adam Beyer.
It's interesting to me that two of my favorite performers have such different styles. Laurent Garnier is a classically trained musician who prepares a show that goes on the road. The show is never exactly the same from venue to venue, and it includes other musicians and a lot more variety than your usual DJ set, because he plays instruments such as MIDI keyboards, drums, saxophones, etc. However I bet each show of Laurent's has more in common than any show by Adam Beyer, a DJ who by nature (track by individual track) creates something entirely new every time he plays.

Going to a Nataraj dance event in Amsterdam with my friend Alyson and her 17 year old brother, who is visiting and working here this summer. It's a bit lighter than other events as it starts at 9pm, yay! I have a hard time waiting until after midnight to get my groove on. Should be fun.
