Well, it's been a while and you probably know that I have arrived in California in one piece. Not only that, if you're a facebook user you've probably seen the photos of the road trip and know what my apartment looks like. Still, facebook cannot tell all and I have some crazy stories.
#1. During our trip we decided that if we couldn't make all the stops we wanted to a long the way (we ended up being pressed for time due to the moving company... but that's a WHOLE other story) we would amend our trip so we could take the car to the top of Mt. Evans in CO. This would have been a fine idea if Josh had a first gear in his car while coming down the mountain... unfortunately, he only had second and third. As a result when we got to the bottom of the mountain he could push his break to the floor and still not come to a stop. Fast forward and it turns out he cracked his rear break drums. Good times. We stopped in Grand Junction to find this out. The mechanic we found was pretty great and fixed it up i a few hours.
#2. We originally planned to do from Denver, to Grand Junction, to Flagstaff, Arizona but due to our unforseen delay we found it was faster to go to Las Vegas, then San Diego. Las Vegas is a weird place. I would like to go back at some point (and may in April) because it's unlike anything I've ever seen and I didn't get to fully enjoy it's ridiculousness for the one very tired night we were there.
#3. Never have I seen more "adult stores" than in the bible belt. Not completely surprising.. and yet shocking just the same.
#4. Our movers really kind of screwed us over. Long story short, it was supposed to cost us $2,200 and ended up costing us $5,130. Partly our naivete, partly their scumbaggery. Needless to say, our apartment is on a 2 way street with parking on both sides. When people are parked on both sides of the street (which is always) you can fit Josh's sedan comfortably and an SUV is a squeeze. There is a small parking lot in front of our building, which when the movers arrived was almost empty. It holds maybe 10 cars parked side by side. Our movers arrived with a 53 foot Semi. When they got to the street, they accidentally turned the wrong way. Instead of turning around the decided it was a better idea to make the turn and then BACK down our street. I kid you not. It was a terrifying, hilarious, and yet zen like experience. How they did it I will never know.
There's more to come, but 4 stories seems good for now. Stay tuned for not being able to walk in the apartment due to boxes, feeding and patting a dolphin, and death threats in the alley behind our building!
PS. I'm liking SD, our apartment, and having the beach 3 blocks away. Aside from an annoying 3 hour time difference I don't have much to complain about. Well, and not having a job.
