I gotta say, I have never been a fan of McCain and up until 4 weeks ago I didn't know Sarah Palin existed, but I at least respected him as a person. As far as conservatives go he's historically been toward the "moderate" side of the scale. Then he turned into a Bush-y and I lost a little respect for him. Then he picked the moron known as Sarah Palin in hopes of gaining the support of anyone with ovaries and I lost more respect for him.
Now this man and his advisors seem to think it's a smart idea to smear Obama as a terrorist because he has interacted with Bill Ayers- apparently they didn't realize just how INSANE their supporters are. I'm pretty sure they were not expecting death threats at their rallies, but now there are and no one from the McCain camp seems to be doing anything about it. I was told McCain made some quiet statement saying Obama is a respectable man, but this clip continues to be shown of a McCain rally where he asks "What do we know about the REAL Obama?" and the crowd errupts in boos and shouts of "terrorist!" and "kill him!" and this look of shock and panic hits his face for a moment as if to say "Holy crap... what have I done" and yet he composes himself and continues his speech. He does nothing to back up his opponents personal character, he continues to let his supporters believe that his opponent is a terrorist because (in the words of his moron pick for VP) he "pals around with domestic terrorists". It is here that I lose complete respect for a man that has spent his life serving his country. I no longer care, because if he actually cared he would realize that our country is dealing with some serious problems right now and completely ripping apart his opponents character with lies is not the way to win an election - and it is certainly not the kind of person we need in office.
As funny as all the SNL skits have been and as I have enjoyed them, the more I think about it the more they terrify me. Tina Fey does Sarah Palin spot on... but the humor is based so much on reality that it seems like the actual Sarah Palin isn't all that different. She stands for everything I'm against and to think of her in the second most powerful person in the United States scares me... almost more than Bush. And it's unfortunate because she is not the kind of person I want representing me as an American woman and yet she is the American woman everyone is watching.
Obama is ahead in the polls and I hope he stays there and wins the election because, my friends, I honestly don't know what I'll do if McCain ends up in Office. I really don't. Sweden is looking awfully good.
