Pleading message #146: “Pete, I want to make it up to you. Please. Come over.”

Pete eyed the phone warily. Patrick had been calling stop, both on the apartment phone and his cell phone - no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t escape. He couldn’t just unplug the phone, though that had been his first instinct; there were still people who needed to be able to reach him.

So, he’d just have to deal with Patrick being a dick.

Imagine, Patrick accusing him of cheating, and then thinking he’d be forgiven that easily.

Never mind that the accusations weren’t exactly unfounded.

Pete looked at the phone again, and then picked it up, dialing Patrick’s number without a second thought. He didn’t give the other man a chance to speak when he answered, instead muttering, “I’ll be over in a few, you stubborn prick,” before hanging up the phone.

There, he’d done that, at least. Now what?

When Patrick let him through the front door of his house, Pete could faintly hear music playing, and he was sure he could smell incense burning. He made a face at Patrick, but Patrick was so excited to see him, he hardly noticed.

“Are you hungry? Of course you’re hungry. I made us dinner.”

Pete looked at him skeptically, and Patrick cracked a smile as he confessed. “Okay, so it’s take out. I’m sorry I couldn’t magically develop cooking skills on such short notice.”

Pete laughed despite himself, and followed Patrick into the dining room. The lights were dimmed and there were candles on the table. The typical perfect romantic dinner.

“What the hell, Stump? Just because I wear eyeliner doesn’t mean I’m a girl!” Pete exclaimed as he took in the sight. The music changed as he was yelling. “And what the fuck is that? Spice Girls?”

Patrick stared at him with his best “what? me? I’m completely innocent” smile. “Whatever do you mean Pete?”

“This! All of this! I - I know you’re trying to fix it, Patrick, but I’m not some girl who’ll get swept away by romantic overtures.”

This time, the smile Patrick gave him was more devious, like he had a secret. He began crooning the lyrics to the song that was playing, completely drowning out the original artist.

“Candle light and soul forever
A dream of you and me together
Say you believe it, say you believe it.”

Pete groaned and turned away from him. It wasn’t going to work this time. It wasn’t. When Patrick came closer, putting his arms around Pete, he tried to shrug him away, but it was a half-hearted effort, and Patrick held fast, still singing softly in his ear.

“ I need some love like I never needed love before
Wanna make love to ya baby
I had a little love, now I'm back for more
Wanna make love to ya baby
Set your spirit free, it's the only way to be

Silly games that you were playing
Empty words we both were saying
Let's work it out boy, let's work it out boy.”

Pete sighed, leaning back against Patrick. Damn the man for knowing his weakness - damn him for being his weakness.
