I’m really excited to have Jessica Therrien with us today to give us some tips and tricks about marketing that she’s learned while releasing her Children of the Gods series.
Welcome Jessica!
Marketing Tips and Tricks
First things, first. Thanks KT for having me on your blog! I’m Jessica Therrien, author of the YA paranormal romance series, CHILDREN OF THE GODS.
Alright, so let’s talk marketing. We authors are REALLY great at staying in our pajamas all day, we’re great a drinking tons of coffee, and burying our noses in books. What we’re not so great at? The sales pitch. Who likes to be that guy? Not me. BUT, if you want your book to do well, you can’t expect people to find it on their own. It takes work. Here are a few tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way.
- Word of mouth is the best marketing tool there is. Let’s just take SOME FINE DAY for example. I’m pretty much telling anyone who reads that they HAVE to read this book. Because I seriously LOVE it. I already have two others on the hook J
- So how do you get readers to talk about your book? Ask them to review it for free. This is different then just offering your book for free on Amazon. I’m suggesting you find online book clubs (or traditional book clubs) and ask them to read your book for free in exchange for honest reviews. A lot of book bloggers will offer this as well. For YA it is definitely worth emailing those bloggers your review requests.
- Make blogger friends. They are invaluable. First of all, it is just awesome to have a group of people in your network who are just as excited about books as you are. Secondly, you help them, they will help you. Having supportive blogger friends who help you get the word out about your book is key. They are AWESOME!
- Goodreads is great. For two reasons. One is the giveaway feature. You can offer a giveaway which raises the visibility of your book and gets people to add it to their to-read list. The second reason is that you can email those people directly to let them know your book has released and/or is on sale.
- Host events. One of the most amazing ways I grew my network was taking part in an event called the Writer’s Campaign. I met a ton of authors/blogger friends that way. Now that Rachael Harrie is no longer hosting that event, I created a few of my own. The Read & Review Challenge is one of them, and I’m planning another once that is done. As long as the event helps promote them, everyone wins. You grow your network and they get exposure. Win, win.
I hope these tips and tricks help all you amazing author folks out there J
Thanks for hosting, KT!
Lead Council member, Christoph, is dead by Elyse’s hand, and Descendants have begun to emerge, exposing their secret to the world. Some see this as the prophecy come to fruition, but the prophecy caries a heavy consequence. It was never meant to be as peaceful as most had hoped.
Humans and Descendants struggle to live together in a world that isn’t ready for such a change. America is divided. Those who glorify the supernatural race believe Descendants truly are the gods they claim relation to. Others see them as a threat.
When Elyse gives birth to the next generation oracle, she sees one final vision-war. The destruction of the country’s major cities, and the end of America as we know it.
After her daughter is born, Elyse finds herself without the ability she needs to predict the future. Desperate to save the world from such conflict, she puts her faith in the hope that Descendants are the key to survival. After all, they have the power to supply a broken society with the means to survive.
Only from the ashes can a new world be born.
