I am so brave. On Friday I went and had 6 fillings done at the dentist. It all worked out fine in the end. Then straight to my podiatrist appointment, which went well. The rest of the week was pretty great too. I got a 2nd supervisor for my PhD, which is cool. I also managed to find a replacement for myself for Q-Health, so I start at the prison on 12th April.
All good. Meanwhile, our hot water system has been broken for more than a week. A little frustrating, but it's really got me thinking again. Since the weekend, I've started showering outside with my camping shower and some boiled water (+ hot showers at work when I run in on weekdays). I've also been handwashing dishes again. Hence, really low water usage.
Meanwhile I bought mushroom compost to start my veggie garden and planted it up a bit on Saturday, especially with seeds I collected from my old plants which had gone to bolt. I even watered the garden with water collected from the house.
So, I'm really becoming quite the hippy. I'm considering
Compact-ing too, but not sure whether it's right for me. I think I need to find my own rules. I did end up ordering a wireless router and buying a new pair of jeans (about time though, every pair I own has a hole in them), which wasn't great. Plus I'm confused about the whole paper thing. Yeah, it's great to use the internet and all, but wouldn't paper be better sometimes. You see, paper has carbon collected from trees which collected it from the atmosphere. So if I buy paper from plantation forest (which pulls the most CO2 from the atmosphere) and then compost the paper and return it to the earth, that's pretty good right? I just need to find paper that's manufactured well.
Another next step I'm going to take up is picking up a soy milk machine. Just soak and drop in the beans, and you get fresh soy milk. Yeah, it'll cost a little bit (not that much though), but I think it'll be worth it to start reducing all those soy milk containers.
