The joys of catching public transport. Furthering my commitment to catching public transport one day a week I decided today would be the day. It was really nice. I caught the train in with Lucy (who was on her way to the Valley) and then changed for a bus at the city (the whole trip took only an extra 20 mins on driving). It's weird that it was so quick, seeing that I stopped for a while in the Queen St Mall to watch Luttsy from Nova radio performing Nelly Furtado's "Man Eater" live in the mall whilst wearing a lycra triathlon outfit with dancers in the background; the results of losing an on-air bet. Whilst a hideous performance, I have to say that the Nova morning crew don't have the usual "radio celebrity look" ;). But then again, Hamish and Andy also follow suit by being slightly cute and very funny. I heart radio.
Anyway, I guess the more important thing was my birthday yesterday. I spent some time meditating on what birthdays are really all about. I ended up giving mental thanks to my mother for birthing, my friends and family for forming me and the earth for being a pretty damn good place to end up. Of course, it was a little like The Devil Wears Prada. Whilst the moral of the story is pretty clear, at the end of the movie you're still like "I could really do with some great clothes like that". So at the end of the work day I caught up with
lmfk and went on a $25 speed-spending-spree, the point of which is to buy as much frivolous stuff as possible within the budget whilst having no money left over. I failed by 25c. But I did end up with some halloween cobweb, coffee mugs (I don't drink coffee :) and a CD scratch repair kit. We then went to catch up with uber-friends
redteacher and
intimatstranger to see Step Up. Whilst it's not exactly a piece of art, it was very entertaining and the dancing was really good. It probably doesn't make my "must see" recommendation list.
Then I popped in to see Silver Fox on the way home. When I got home (really late) my housemates were there and tried to give me cryptic clues to find my present (something about eating off my chest, kinky). Anyway, they gave up and gave it to me anyway. What sweeties.
I eventually fell asleep in a sugar-induced daze.
All in all, very good. Plus I now have
TVP.
Now bring on the flurry of stress which is a combination of upcoming Hervey Bay trip with not enough time to organise it + many social events + having to get nomination form signed by multiple people and sent in today (it should have been sent in yesterday).
