2. Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny
I've loved Zelazny since the day long ago when I picked up Bring Me the Head of Prince Charming and that love only deepened with The Chronicles of Amber, so when I found this book while unpacking (or evaluating for future reading)
manwhoreforhire's books, I was excited.
From the cover, "..novel of Siddharta the Buddha--in a far future time on a far distant planet". There are reincarnation machines that transfer human consciousness, the Hindu pantheon of gods--they themselves colonists from long gone Earth--who repress technology and advancement upon man by instituting a subject-to-corruption reincarnation system, an almost reluctant Buddha, and theological underpinnings. To say I loved it is an understatement.
I'd like to find other Zelazny books, but they do seem out-of-print and hard to find for the most part.
