Short stories by the author of Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell, which meant the great story telling, ideas and world without the long and involved storytelling of her previous book.

10 books short of my goal but I feel accomplished nonetheless. Before I undertook my goal, I felt like, while I have always loved to read, I wasn't making time for it and doing less of it than I liked. While not a heroic endeavor, 40 books in one year affirms I can still make room for reading. While I did decide to not count them in the end, I did read a number of magazine subscriptions (Real Simple, Cosmo, Glamour and Marie Clare--what? I like girly magazines), which does take up reading time.

Another reason I challenged myself was to expand my reading horzons. That didn't go so well.

Number of Dresden books: 9
Number of Neil Gaiman books: 13
Number of Star Wars books: 6

That's well over half of the books I read this year. The other twelve are a collection of books forced upon me for the most part by gravilim and manwhoreforhire. There isn't a single book on the list I felt was a waste of time to read or didn't like.

For 2008, I hope to reach my 50 book mark. If not, it will still be fun to try. I'll also vow to try to expand my reading horizons more, which means I might have to finally pick up the Lone Wolf and Cub series manwhoreforhire recommends so highly.
