I have a dissertation committee!! Yays!! It is:
Dr. Hancock (chair), Dr. Szalma, Dr. Jentsch, and Dr. McDaniel from Digital Media
I feel pretty good about it. I may switch out Dr. Szalma for Dr. Sims if I go with a more cognitive science-y topic. I think I have a good mix of old and new profs here, older ones for experience and younger ones for motivation and drive.
Now I just have to find a topic!! I'm leaning towards decision making on the Web. My old adviser from Clemson Dr. Gugerty published a paper a while back on the elderly and how they make decisions about health care content on the Web (who to trust, differences in search style, etc.). I need to ask him what other work he's done in that area. I'd like to investigate the younger generation's style of search and in particular look at the effects of feedback (like ratings, stars, comments, etc.) on acceptance and trust in web content.
Interesting topic, but I need to fit it into a theory base as well. Maybe Information Foraging Theory and the Model Human Processor for the cognitive/decision making components?
