Top 10 Songs of 2009

Dec 30, 2009 22:31

I saw Trent's Top 10 Songs of the Year Post, and felt I also wanted to do one!
So, alas, I present to you, my Top 10 Songs of 2009

#10 - If Today Was Your Last Day - Nickelback
Gotta give some Canadian love in here, even if it is #10. This song is so inspirational for me. I heard it the first time when I was working on So You Think You Can Dance Canada and it truly inspired me to push forth in my career and gave me the courage to make some calls this summer. The melody is just haunting.

#9 - You Found Me - The Fray
I was a fan of this song before Matt Giraud did it on Idol, but after his performance, I just appreciated it so much more. It's nice to hear a song about religion on the radio, even if its not explicitly religious like a worship song. Once again, the melody is haunting and the harmony is so pretty.

#8 - I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas
This is perhaps the summer anthem of 2009, and man is it catchy. This song gets stuck in my head so often and its friggin hard to get out. It isn't higher because its quite repetitive and majorly overplayed, but it does put me in a good mood whenever I heard it. Plus its 10x better than Boom Boom Pow. Based on Meet Me Halfway, I am optimistic we are going to hear more songs like this from The E.N.D.

#7 - Right Round - Flo Rida ft. Ke$ha
This song has been a big one for Ellen DeGeneres this year as it has made frequent appearances on her show. It is so damn catchy and always makes me want to dance. This was the clubbing song at the end of 3rd year and it will always remind of spring 2009.

#6 - You Belong With Me - Taylor Swift
I hate to put T-Swift so low considering how much I adore her, but this song is just not one of my top 5 for this year, as much as I love it. I think perhaps I've heard it too many times. I remembering always playing it this summer when I was driving the kiddies to and from their activities and we would always blast it as Fearless was one album we all enjoyed. However, it has been massively overplayed and I am needing a break from it. Yet, it still remains a hit, and I am so proud of Taylor and all her accomplishments this year.

#5 - Poker Face - Lady Gaga
This song will always remind me of Nicole, because it was her who introduced it to me. I believe the first time I heard it was on the Hills Aftershow when they brought out like, Steph Pratt or something, but since then it has blown up like crazy! I wish it was higher on my list as well, yet Lady Gaga will have to chill at #5. This song is amazing and so damn catchy. Her performance of it on the Ellen show gave me shivers. She's amazing. I can't wait for more Lady Gaga songs that will come with the recent release of The Fame Monster.

#4 - Don't Stop Believin' - Glee Cast
I truly thought this was going to be my number one song, but my iTunes play count says differently. All I can say is when I first heard this, it gave me shivers. Way to bring back and old classic and make it number one again. I love Glee. That's all I will say.

#3 - Whatever You Like (Cover) - Anya Marina
This song is so amazing. I was never a huge fan of it when T.I. did it but Anya's cover is haunting! While the lyrics are highly sexual and thus mostly inappropriate, I can't get enough of this song. It is also my phone's ringtone. If you have not heard this, download it now!! Anya's vocals are beautiful and I can't wait to hear more from her. I believe I first heard this on Gossip Girl.

#2 - My Life Would Suck Without You - Kelly Clarkson
The first time I heard this song on Youtube back in early 2009 I thought "Uh-Oh, I really like it" and man is it catchy! You add Glee doing an awesome rendition in the season 1 finale and you have a huge hit. It's so nice to hear Kelly on the radio once again after her long hiatus. She's my home girl and I'll always be behind her 100%. I hope to hear more songs from her in 2010 because they really do make my life that much better. She's back!!

#1 - Use Somebody - Kings of Leon
This song took me by complete surprise. I am ashamed to say I was never a KOL fan before this song, but I am now. I wondered what it was about this band that drew in celebrities by the hoards over the summer, and now I get it. Even though this song was technically released in 2008, it really occupied most of 2009 for me. This song is truly amazing and it completely deserves to be commemorated at the #1 spot on my list this year. While most will say that Kings of Leon are now sell outs, I am happy they are finally getting the recognition and airtime they deserve after years of effort. I downloaded Only By The Night and to my delight, the rest of the songs are similar to the ones we know and love, so I am predicting only good things for the band come 2010.

I hope to also do one for Movies and TV shows, if anyone would be interested. Also to come is my annual Year in Review post, and I also want to do something special for a decade in review, but those might come after the New Year.
