You know you're not enjoying your lunch when the smell of it makes you nauseated.
One of our workers from our office in China is here for 3 weeks and they asked us to take him around lunch or to various other places if we could. The supes are in their 50s and I think they felt he might enjoy it more with the late 20/early 30 crowd since he is closer to our age. A couple of us decided to take him to Napa for some wine tasting. We stopped off at an Italian deli that made fantastic sandwiches (he ordered rotisserie chicken) and then we went to V Sattui where everyone and their mothers went for the extended weekend. Poor guy asked if cheese was a staple here. I forgot that most Chinese are lactose intolerant and that China rarely ever uses cheese, if they even use any at all. We did some wine tasting and he seemed to enjoy it, preferring the sweeter wines. Then we headed over to the one that Francis Ford Coppola owns (or recently sold, whatever). I picked up a bottle of their rubicon wine, which is the best wine I ever tasted. I figure I might as well get it since it had been on my mind for the past 4 years. When we got back, I took him to a Japanese restaurant, which he seemed to like. He's very open and wants to try out different things and he's trying to learn about us as much as possible. He was very curious about me since I can only speak English but yet I know a lot about Chinese stuff. We're taking him out to dinner again next week and it took me awhile to think of a place that has cheeseless dishes. Pretty much wipes out Mexican and Italian. We're thinking of this local Persian restaurant, which includes red currants with their rice on one of the dishes. I haven't been there in awhile and it's a fantastic little place.
While running some errands yesterday, I stopped by a Punjabi restaurant for take out. The guy handed me some tea while I waited for my order. It was one of the strangest teas I've ever had, so I asked him what was in it. 7-8 different spices including fennel seed and carroway with a little bit of cream. I ate my dinner while I watched a Bollywood film called Om Shanti Om. Cute movie and I liked it quite a bit. Now I want to watch some more Bollywood, but I have no idea where to start.
