As with most work places, gossip is abundant. And I have to get this out of my system: I DON'T CARE
Rumours floating about how two people are probably having an affair with each other. She is married, but gave him a $250 ring for Xmas. He gave her some diamond bracelet that he won't say what the price is. So my friend at work has nothing to do but to speculate. I said, "Look, maybe they are. Those are quite expensive gifts to be giving to each other as 'just friends', but really, it is their business."
Then she tells me more office crap like how management is looking for a way to get rid of someone....They needed to let this person go a long time ago, but I don't care to hear the story about it. So she goes on and on about it, I make a few comments then I explain to her, "Hey look, it isn't a big deal, okay? I don't care."
She got huffy with me and stormed off. Oye. I realize that I am either end of the scale, but rarely in between. I either care way too much and let things get me down or I don't give a flying rat's ass. I have been guilty of both, but again, I am rarely between the extremes.
Now I have to explain to her what I meant by 'I don't care' and that it has nothing to do with her. I just don't care to hear about the flippin' gossip around the office. I guess the 'Sorry if you think I care, but I don't' is out of the question. Sigh.
