Welcome to the K/S Relativity Challenge!
Please announce your intention to participate in the comments section, and tell us the type of fill you’d like to do - art, fic, video, etc. A mod will respond to confirm your signup. We will be communicating with you through Livejournal, so make sure you either check your inbox regularly, or have message alerts set!
So how exactly does this work?
Anyone can submit prompts based on four categories (a place, an object, a location, and miscellaneous)
on this post. These prompts will be shuffled within their categories to make new sets of four. Then the people who sign up will randomly receive one of these sets of four. More than one person, but no more than three, will get the same prompt set - in other words, will have the same basic elements for inspiration.
Then we get to see what happened when they all post together! How did everyone include the elements of their prompts? How did they each choose to approach the K/S dynamic? Did they go for a crackfic or something serious? That's what we'd like to find out!
You mean I won’t know what prompts I’m getting?
That’s right! The prompts will be randomly assigned for a maximum surprise factor. The challenge will explore how different people choose to make order out of the same chaos!
Who can participate?
Writers, artists, vidders - if you're a K/S fan who would like a creative challenge, we'd love to have you!
What universes are allowed?
Anything is fair game, as long as it features our favorite boys! TOS, Reboot, the Mirrorverse, and AUs are all fine.
When does the challenge take place?
Currently, our schedule is planned as follows:
May 1: prompt submissions and signups begin
May 10: prompt submissions and signups end
May 12: prompts assigned
June: write like monkeys on typewriters (or paint/vid/draw!)
July 1: posting begins
Exact posting dates will depend on participation; for example, if we get enough signups for three sets of prompts, we'll have three posting days that are spaced evenly apart, with a week or less in between. A more definite posting schedule will be made after signups are over, but for now, you can assume you should be done by July 1st.
What are the rules?
1. No wank. Keep any discussions mature and respectful.
2. Commenting on any and all fills will be rewarded with internet cookies.
3. If you participate, try your best to include all your prompts in some small way. Making at least one of them a major plot point is even better!
4. Obviously, your creation should have something to do with K/S! Whether it's friendship, preslash, first time, or established relationship is up to you.
But what happens if I get assigned a prompt set I hate?
If you get a set of prompts that you absolutely cannot work with, just message a mod, and we'll find you another one! However, we encourage you to think outside the box - if one of your prompts is "elephant," you could have a plot point be a book about elephants, or an elephant-like alien creature, or a philosophical discussion about
the story of the blind men and the elephant. The goal of the challenge is to see how flexible and creative the fandom can be, so have fun with it!
Is there a word requirement for fanfiction submissions?
There are no maximum or minimum word requirements, and there's over a month's worth of time to be creative, even if you only want to submit something short. If the ficbunnies bite you really bad, and you can't finish in time for your posting date, message a mod. We will try to make provisions for any long, epic WIPs that result from this challenge!
Are betas required?
Betas are strongly encouraged, but not required. If you need a beta (and most every fic can benefit from one), post a beta search to the KirkSpock community. If you choose not to use a beta, please have someone else read over your fic to check for grammatical errors.
How did you guys get this crazy/awesome/stupid idea?
It started with
melooza's post back on the main K/S community, then spiraled out of control from there!
Mod note: Remember, you can still submit prompts even if you're signed up to participate!
