So, last night I managed to pluck up the courage to call my parents and tell them about the upcoming wedding. (10/11/11 for anyone who wants to swing by Spokane to cheer us on.) It didn't go as badly as I feared, nor as well as I had hoped, but that's life. It went like this (almost word for word).
Me: Ari and I have finally decided to set a date. We're getting married on October 11, not this year but next.
Mom: Anything make you decide to do it now? (Ari out later that this was probably her hoping for grandkids.)
Me: Nope, just decided it was about time.
Mom: Where will it be?
Me: Here *inserts venue name*
Mom: Oh. Okay. *small pause* So, today your dad and I were pulling vines across the road....
The rest of the conversation was about their yard upkeep, their weather, my lack of job, how my grandmother was doing, etc. Anything to keep from talking about the reason I called. In some ways I should be grateful, I have no reason to wish to speak to my parents about the particulars of the wedding. But would a 'we're happy for you' be too much to ask?
Ah well. Thus goeth life. Hopefully they'll tell me later if they can make it or not. I was pretty sad about it all last night, but feeling pretty good this morning. I can stop fretting about what they'll think now and move on with my life. Well, until they catch wind of the plans for the heathen spiritually blended ceremony. Heh.
wedding,
