Because appearance is more important than truth when it comes to health....

This morning had the following discussion with my MiL:

MiL: Where were you shopping this morning?
Me: I was taking advantage of the cereal sale... $50 worth of cereal for 20 bucks, totally worth it.
MiL: *eyes the mounds of lucky charms, fruit loops, and coco puffs* Why so much?
Me: It's really the best snack for Ari before bed.
MiL: It can't be good for her to have all that sugar!!
Me: Actually, it's only 12g of sugar a serving for any of those.
MiL: Well, she really needs to be more careful with her blood sugars.
Me: ... in other words, a bowel of cereal has HALF the sugar that an apple or an orange would. Plus because it's kids cereal it's actually fortified with a lot of vitamins and minerals, so while it's not a fruit or veggie, it's actually not bad for you. Since Ari doesn't have a problem controlling her sugars during the day, but only really at night when she's sleeping, it makes sense for her to eat something that's low in sugar before bed.
MiL: *eyeing my stacks of cereal dubiously* But it just looks so sugary...
Me: *gives up*
