2012

I really like disaster movies. I love the whole wrath of god, doom and destruction aspect. The over the top action scenes and amazing CGI just add to the appeal.

Intellectually, I know all the science in these things is crap. I'm no expert but I know enough of the real science to know virtually everything they referenced in 2012 was inaccurate and outright fiction. But I didn't really care. :-) I liked it.

I know the action sequences that get my heart pounding are not in any way shape or form possible. I know the lovely 'happy ending' could not logically occur in real life. But I don't care. None of that matters because I'm there to simply watch and enjoy. I'm more than willing to suspend my disbelief for two hours and go along for the ride.

2012 was decidedly entertaining. It was one narrow, improbable escape after another. It had lovely moments of humor---at least I thought they were funny---some actually engaging characters and eye popping CGI. (Crushing the white house with the JFK air craft carrier was just amazing. That and watching the ocean rise up to swamp the Himalayas. Holy cow was that cool. Making water actually look and act like water is no mean feat for a computer image and they did a fabulous job)

There was some nice eye candy in the form of Johann Urb. What a pretty, pretty man. Naturally, he doesn't survive. He was only a minor character so he might as well be wearing a red shirt in a star trek episode, but he was lovely to watch while he was there.

There are plot holes I noticed while watching, but they didn't detract from my enjoyment. The flow of events and actions, no matter how improbable, was cohesive. There were no sudden jarring moments of---"Wait? What? How did they get there?" I liked this far better than Transformers 2 which I still think of as crap and will admit to look at my watch several times during wondering when it was finally going to wrap up.

This one had the usual predictable moments of sappy family stuff as they try to save themselves and their children. It had the usual speeches about humanity and altruism. But none of that, as canned and stale as they were, detracted from my enjoyment.

If you are willing to not think too hard, and just go along with it, I'd recommend the movie to anyone. :-)
