OMG WHY IS IT NOT NOVEMBER?!
I totally have an idea that's been bouncing around my brain so much, I want to write it NOW! The genre is historical fiction, during the time of Jagiellonian Poland-Lithuania, to be honest. (The two were joined at the time.) The secondary genre, I guess, is "queer fiction" since the main pair is a lesbian couple. The basic plot is the knight Aras was raised as a boy by her father, who had always wanted a son. She's assigned to guard the eldest princess, Ariadna, on a journey to Russia to meet her husband-to-be, Tsarevitch Mikhael. Along the way, Aras and Ariadna come across many strange, fantastical creatures from Slavic folk-tales and mythology. (i.e. the Firebird, Baba Yaga, Mavka, Południca, etc) Of course the two eventually fall for each other.
I can't wait to write it. NANO COME NAO PLZ D:
Also also also!
Litwa and I ended up not going to the Italian festival cos she had to work and I'm a bit sick, tbh. BUT. BUT.
I finished the outfit designs for my Firebird project, and have the thumbnails done:
Prince Ivan
You can't tell cos I'm gonna do it digitally, but his cape/cloak/vest thing is blue with gold patterns on it :3
Prince(ss) Tolys
I really love the design for this and can't wait to colour it in rich reds, deep greens, shimmering golds... I gave him a more androgynous outfit based on folk-costumes across Eastern Europe as well as certain medieval paintings.
The Firebird, Feliks
Now THIS was a fun one to do! I got to play up androgyny here too, since I didn't wanna make him TOO feminine OR masculine, since... he's a phoenix... Rather than draw inspiration from ballet costumes for the Firebird, I actually based him a lot more on real birds, mostly the peacock and quetzal. He'll naturally be coloured in shades of red, orange, and gold.
...but I'm not gonna photograph the thumbnails cos they're just stick people. I can tell you what the three scenes are though.
SCENE ONE: Prince Ivan proposing an alliance with Liet's country. I plan to have Russia kneeling in front of Liet, and Liet to have an uneasy expression, both their faces in profile. The style will be art nouveau, particularly inspired by Alphonse Mucha.
SCENE TWO: Prince Ivan meeting the Firebird. This panel will be twice as big as the other two, as one of Poland's "wings" is outstretched toward the Prince. The wings are attached to his arm, rather than his back, since wings are basically bird arms IRL. Style will be the style of Disney movies, or at least as close to it as I can get.
SCENE THREE: THE TWIST ENDING. I can't reveal what happens here except that all three characters are present. The style however is a lineless, art deco-inspired style. For anyone who's seen Princess and the Frog, think the "Almost There" number. Yeah, it's like that.
I'm really looking forward to starting the sketches.
Litwa and I ARE still attending next week's Polish festival, mostly cos I go every year without her anyway. I'm totes looking forward to it; I'm gonna try to buy myself a Polish folk costume if I can afford it. (Or at least the skirt; I can probably make the shirt and vest...)
ALSO we're both gonna be at San Jose's Hetalia Day, so if you're going, look for Soviet-era Lithuania and Poland. How to spot us: I'm a really short Poland with a Commie patch on my uniform. She's a tall Lithuania in a Soviet Ushanka. Also I'll be pulling her around on a pink dog leash. Cos Liet is totally all mine. ;D
I wish I had more free time ;-;
Love until later,
