Thank you everyone for the many and varied birthday wishes. I appreciate my boys who called me up during my Passover Seder to wish me a happy vocal new year.
38 is a big deal. Only one year left of my thirties. I think I've become a grown up. Yet for this new year off adulthood, why should I face it empty handed?
It is now time for me to submit my annual XP request!
"What is an XP request?" you ask. Experience is gained in roleplaying games by accomplishing quest or defeating foes. In some games you get a point just for playing, and you can gain extra by demonstrating what you character has learned as a person. This is my request for age 38:
10. There are two types of dads that a man can vacillate between: The one that asks, what more do you want, and the dad that asks what more can I give?
9. The gatekeeper of who gets to come back to the popular limelight after an indiscresion is up to the judicial system of the Popular Zeitgeist Marketplace.
8. You don't have to be early, you just have to be in before your boss.
7. Space/Time is relative per Einstein. It slows particularly in moments of Great Wait: the afternoon of Yom Kippur, the night before Christmas, the last hours before sunset during Ramadan or the last day of Pesach.
6. Part of being a parent and spouse is knowing how, like Joseph, to put away for the lean times during the times of plenty.
5. Stop ride sharing after 2am. Nothing good happens after 2am.
4. Keep those balls in the air. Keep planning, then keep those plans and balls going till you find the 2, the 4, the six that G-d's got your name on.
3. Be mindful of how you treat folks you serve with in the military, you never know who you'll end up serving with or where our when, or what they'll remember about you.
2. In all things parenting, as my dad would say... And as his told him: He who feels it, knows it.
1. Regardless of the calamity I face: I can lose every job, lose every opportunity, have my roof fall in with my apartment flooded. I can still smile, cus soon... Imma go CRAZY!
Once again thank you for all the well wishes. Here's to a year where I have enough XP to gain the next level. I'm k5H4w, and you've been kreemed. Happy Pesach.
birthday,
