The Web aftermath and my Guerilla Gardening

Jun 28, 2010 17:34

So I'm rebuilding my digital footprint. I took the few things that are important, like my blogging and have moved on from there. In terms of social networking, I dropped my entire Friends List except for a few that pre alerted me requesting to be spared. Now I'm rebuilding the kShaw nation nearly from scratch. I'm no going to go into the events that led to all of this. See my last post.

Oh in other news. Apparently I'm back on the market. I'm single once again.

Saturday night I did my guerilla gardening excursion. I got there about 45 minutes later than I planned. It ws just me and wow was it hard work. I first came by and tried to drop off the dirt and compost I'd brought but soon realized that'd be a bad idea. Homeless folks almost immediately swarmed me looking for handouts, and the police came by to make sure I wasn't up to anything. I packed up my gear and left. I then parked by Bayside and loaded as much dirt as I could into my backpack. I then hiked over to the dig site with my cultivators and got to work. After about 15 minutes I was sweating so hard it was like I'd just jumped into a pool. I was working on the sides of the train tracks and either side was horrible. One side (the south side) was practically concrete. The other was full of this scrub that would have torn at my hands if i hadn't been wearing gloves. I mean these weren't just weeds. What i have in my back yard? Those are weeds. These things... The soil was dusty and dry. It was like working with chalk.
I finally cleared a space about 8x4 feet. Unfortunately I'd forgotten some of the seeds I'd planned to bring and others wouldn't have worked with the depth of the soil. I ended up planting blue forget me nots... IN THE SHAPE OF THE BLUE LANTERN EMBLEM!!! Hope for the win.
It looked nice cus I added the soil and the rich black soil contrasted against the grayish brown chalky dirt made the emblem stick out. I watered it with water that I'd kept in a gas can. I then went home. Safe and happy.
Seriously, once you're no where near a car and you're totally on foot no one bothers you. I could have been carrying a machete for goodness sake and no one'd care.

We have an entire Nation of Blue Lanterns today. Our inspiration for hope today happens to be Kyrgyzstan. After weeks of civil unrest and ethnic violence the people of Kyrgyzstan came out to vote on adopting a new constitution. They will have an elected parliament that will limit the power of the President, much like ours does (or is supposed to). The violence that erupted was between Uzbecks and Kyrgz and is believed to have been instigated by forces loyal to the previous president who was ousted in a bloody coup that led to the current interim government. It's this interim government that is attempting to put the power of the governement into the hands of the people. Villagers wounded in the attacks voted on ballots from their hospital beds. Many had to have temporary identifications issued since everything they'd owned had been destroyed in fires caused by riots. Yet still they voted. They voted with the Hope that a new governement led by the people could stop such confusion.
Many feel that the violence really had nothing to do with ethnic strife since the two groups generally get along. Yet due to what appears to have been staged atrocities commited by one group upon the other (atrocities that as stated before could have merely been powerplays to weaken the interim governement and allow the return of Kurmanbek Bakiyev). The fact that an entire people were able to overcome the "divisions" that "seperated" them to realize how superficial they actually were and to thirst instead for the Hope of a safer future for their children is what gives this nation a blue ring. Look to the stars. Hope burns bright.

That's about it for this Monday Afternoon. As always you can post any comments below. Much love to everyone still following my exploits. As always I am kShaw and you've just been... well, Kreemed.
