We used to have a public holiday on November 7th, which was the anniversary of the Great October revolution of 1917.
The policy of the State reminds me the period of the monarchy. And yes, we live as if we still have the Tzar who is the one like a superhero can solve all our problems. It’s a myth which is supported by the media and by public holidays changes. How can we remember and even think about revolution when we have such a caring Father-Tzar?
Since 2004 this holiday was replaced on November 4th and renamed as a day of the Unity. I do not feel this to be a holiday and I do not want to celebrate it. I feel very thankful to my ancestors who struggle in the XVII century to protect the Russian State from invaders but I also remember the revolutions of 1905, 1917 which are also important parts of our history and we can not pretend they never happened.
The Unity is a myth for the Russian Federation. Only words confirm this term: “The United Russia” (a major political party), “ The United front” (a movement led by the United Russia and Mr. Putin). In reality we have nationalism, racism, intolerance and social contradictions.
I want to learn how to feel tolerant for other peoples of the State and to respect their culture, religion and language. I have friends and colleagues from different republics of Russia. Some of them are Christians and one is Buddhist, many are atheists. I realize that I should respect other people every day and enjoy and understand our differences not remember about them once a year on 4th November. But it is a very hard job, because I tend to be very intolerant to immigrants form Republics of Tadzhikistan, Uzbekistan who invade my privacy, who makes me feel insecure in spite of the fact that they come to Russia in order to earn money to survive and support their families.
The hymn of the French revolution ,"La Marseillaise", has been the hymn since 1792 (!). And I think we should respect our history and our revolutionary past as well. Historia magistra vitae est. (history is life's teacher) In order to learn we should respect and remember our history and our past and create our future consciously.
