Egypt... In words.

Nov 04, 2005 22:40

Well. I guess you are all courious of my trip to Egypt? Soo... Here goes. I'll take it from the start, day by day. This is going to be a loooooong post....

Tuesday. Leaving Sweden.

Got up in a rediculous hour (4.00 in the morning) to take a shower and get ready. Packed my personal items to, like toothbrush and the likes. At 6.00 we left home. I might add that the problem with packing personal items like that in the morning is that you have a tendency to forget stuff... Like your pills... Yes, THOSE pills.... It pissed me off royally, and I yelled a bit in the car, wish pissed off my love. Anyway, we arrived at the airport, meet my mom and bro, got on the plane and took off. It took 4 hours to get there. Booooring...

Anyway. We arrived, the airplane opened and gawd damn, the heat! Hurghada, wish was the city we vent to is by the Red Sea, but the rest is just dessert. So yeah, hot!!! We got to the hotel, and it was stunning! Seen Aladdin? Seen the palace in the Disney-movie? It reminded me a bit of that. Only it was pink. Looked good anyway. And it was totally luxury. We all squeeed over our rooms, wish was just wonderful to. Me and my love in one room, my bro and his lady in one, and my mother in one. In the same corridorr besides each other. Just perfect. In the afternoon there was an introduction from the travel agency, and we could pay for the trips we were going to do during the week. (More of those later.) That evning we just stayed by the hotell. It had a little street in the same style as the hotel right on the outside of it, full of bars and little shops. We spent that evning at one of the bar, looking at a short version of Rocky Horror Picture Show, were they mimed to the music, but still good. A long day, so we vent to bed early.

Wedneysday. Hurgahada City.

We got up pretty early, considering, and we all went down to the pool. The hotel was HUGE and had 5 pools of there own. And it was just a short and nice 5 minute walk to the beach by the Red Sea. But we stayed at the pools this day, since me, mom, my brother and his lady was going in to the old town of Hurghada to check out the Bazar in the afternoon. A trip planned by the travel agency. My love wanted to stay at the hotel being all lazy. We went, and it was a fun. We also learned that in Egypt you haggle (pruta) on everything! And I mean EVERYTHING!!!! And the salesmen at the Bazar were really... not rude, but they sat on the street and as soon as you got close, they tried to talk you into visit there store. Not to nice. After leaving the Bazar we checked out some sites in Hurghada. Not much to see, though. The whole town is full of hotels. It is nearly all there is. There are locals there to, of course, but not that many. And the ones living there are working with tourism. Alot of hotels were not finished, and alot of houses were really brokend and old. And in the middle of this were hotels and a few houses that were oh so very beautiful. The mish mash of it all gave the town a beauty all its own. :-)

The evning was spent at the same bar looking at anohter show, don't remember wish one, right now.

Thursday. Being lazy by the Red Sea.

We woke up pretty early this day to. No plans for the day, just being lazy at the beach, swimming in the Red Sea, wish we did. And we had lunch at a very cute little resaurant at the beach to. Really lovely. Oh, I haven't talked about the food yet! At the luxuary hotel we stayed at, breakfast and dinner in the evning was included. Both breakfast and dinner included first course, main course and dessert. Yes, the breakfast to. Totally silly. You just walked around the buffet and picked what you wanted. Needless to say, we were stuffed everytime we left the hotel restaurant...

Friday. Luxor trip.

This was the big day! At least for me, my love and my mother. We three were goint to Luxor this day to see the Valley of the Kings and the Karnak-temple.

The day started EARLY! At 5.15 the buss left the hotel. After two hours we took a break to visit the restrooms and eat some of the breakfast we brought from the hotel (no extra charge). Here two there were egyptians trying to sell stuff. Only thing to do is shaking your head and walk past them. Otherwise I'd been broke within a few hours in this country! Anyway. Back to the restrooms. They were NOT nice. Considering this info: To travel to Luxor in a turist-buss you had to travel in a convoy gaurded by police-men. Alot of them. Felt save, I'd say. In the convoy there was around 70-80 busses. In low season... In high season there could be up to 150 busses in the convoy. Needless to say, the restrooms were very stinky... After the stop we continued on to Luxor.

And the first stop was the Karnak Temple. Good greif... There is no word for this place. It is HUGE!!!! And so fucking beautiful... You guys on my F-list that has a thing for Egyptian Gods and Egyptian History, make sure you go there!!!! At least one time during your life. I have no words for it. I took alot of pictures, though. If I can get a hold of a scanner, I'll scann some as soon as I get them.

Second stop was Luxor city, and the Nile. We stopped at a restaurant by the Nile to eat lunch. Very cool! And lovely food, although my love's stomach didn't approve wish we found out the day after. After that we went by small boats over the Nile to catch up with our bus on the other side. Onwards to the Valley of the Kings!

Once there, it was HOT!!! I was nearly at a boiling point. My love and mom to. And our funny guide of the day (who was called Waleed, btw) lead us straight up to the two tombs at the the top of the valley. It was steep and did I mention HOT! But we got there. The two tombs were amazing! They were the two were the colors and the artwork was best intact. The third with equell stunning artwark and a mumie(! No kidding!) was at the bottom of the valley. And no, we did not go to see Tutankhamons tomb. The guide adviced us not to, since it was quite small and not to much to see. The first one was a great architect's tomb, the secon one I don't remember, and the last one was Ramses IX.

After this we we vent to a factory that made beautiful figurines in the stone basalt. Really wonderful! We bought two Bastet figurines, one for us and one for my loves mum as a thank you for looking after our cats.

Then we left to look at one of Hatchepsuts tempels. We just looked at the outside of it, and our guide told us her story, since we were late for the police-convoy back to the hotel. If we missed it, we would have been forced to spend the night in Luxor... We didn't miss it, though, and the trip back, went without problems (but a stop at the stinky restrooms were involved...)

Saturday. Being lazy by the pool.

We didn't plan anything for saturday, we just hang around by the pool. Reading books, being lazy. And actually getting a bit brown... My love's stomach was not his friend that day, so not to fun. He had to stay in the hotel-room, while the rest of us saw that nights intertainment at the bar: Phantom of the Opera, the short version.

Sunday. Using a snorkel in the Red Sea.

On sunday we vent on a trip with a boat out on the Red Sea. First we got to see the Red Sea from the bottom, in a submarine. And then we got a chance to see it ourselfs using a snorkel and swim-glasses. Absolutly amazing! I poked Nemo! *grin* And, of course, alot of pictures were taken. After that we went back to the hotel, enjoyed ourselfs and just took it easy. And yes, we went to the same bar, and looked at that nights entertainment to. Don't remember wish show/movie they mimed for that evning...

Monday. Being lazy by the pool... Again...

Yes. This day we didn't do much at all.We enjoyed our last day of sun and warmth, and just existed. My brother wanted to take a last dip in the Red Sea, so me and his lady came with him. Just as nice as the last two times. My and my love went shooping a weee bit to. I bought myself a fully functional waterpipe! Ah... :-) And a nice ankh to have in a necklace. The evning was spent watching Rocky Horror Picture Show at the bar. Still good. Man, I love that music!

Tuesday. Going home.

We woke up pretty early, went down to the restaurant to eat the last huge breakfast. Packed our bags. Put them outside the door for the bellman (yes, this hotel had bellmens... :-D). Went downstairs, waited for the bus. Went to the airport (and what a chaos that was!). Took 5 hours to fly home. Mangade to get everything with us. Nothing lost. Went home in our car to our two cats.

End of story. MAN! This IS a long post! Probebly the longest I have posted in this journal. I hope you enjoyed it. It took some time to type it. :-) IF I feel like it, I'll hunt for a scanner and scann som of all the pics I took during this week. And post them to. :-) Take care!
