A bit of a story behind it to!
This Friday I decided to take Alexandra to an Open Preschool we hadn't been to so much but that she loved just to make sure she had some activity to go to. It's good for her and makes sure she sleeps good at night. A goal that, considering the troubles we have at bedtime here...
Anyway!
Off we went, taking two buses, and when we arrived we found out it was closed on Fridays... CRAP! What to do? Back on the bus we went to go downtown, and then we went to the optician to get my glasses fixed and on whim went to the Big Citylibrary.
Alexandra loves it there to, and they have a singalong for kids all ages every Friday, so why the hell not?
I was sitting there and the librarian responsible for the kid-section came over to me and wanted to talk with me after the singalong, since she said she might have good news for me. So sure, after the singalong (which Alexandra loved! she loves being at libraries), I went to find her again.
And sure enough. She told me that the one of the biggest schools in town lacked a school-librarian. And had lacked for three years (!). Apparently their hired one was long-term sicklisted, and they never knew if she could work, when she'd come back and... yeah. And they had this extra hand that helps anywhere at the school where it's needed that just makes sure the kids get to enter the library and borrow a book.
Let's just say a librarian does a shitload more than that.
Anyway, I called the school talked to the woman responsible (apparently) and she asked me right away if I could get there right away? At that point I was home alone with Alexandra who was getting grumpy for food. I had to decline and say that my hubby was getting home any min, could I come then? Which I could (thank heavens!), so as soon as
peting73 came home, I ran out the door and went to the school for an impromptu interview.
Which was very impromptu. o.O I got to talk to responsible lady and one of the three headmasters (!). Both were very nice. They asked me a bit of leading questions about what I'd like tod do IF I got to run the library and how to get kids to read more and how to incorporate the internet in classes... etc, etc, etc...
They also gave me a bit of a tour of the school... And then when I was alone with the responsible lady, she suddenly said, well... You need to be here for a meeting at 3pm on Monday, so if you could work until 3:30pm that would be great.
.....
Wait, what? Apparently they gave me the job on the spot. o.O I don't know what I said or what I did, but they must have liked it. So now I'm hired to work 4 hours a day, until the last of March. There MIGHT be an extension on that, but they can only extend it for one monthy at a time, what with the troublesome librarian they used to have.
So tomorrow I'll be presenting myself as the new librarian at that school. Where they have 700 kids or so.
Holy fuck. o.O
I don't know if I should be happy or terrified.
Life is going to be interesting from now on for sure!
