Pregnancy and family...
peting73's cousin called up yesterday. She with the slight mental handicap. I think I've written about her before? Anyway, she is BEYOND excited about the arrival of Nerd Jr. She can hardly speak about anything else. :-) The staff that works where she lives has told me she talks about Nerd Jr and me and peting73 and how awesome it is and everything constantly. I love that. She is so excited. Nerd Jr will be the only baby born to peting73s teeny tiny extended family. She/He will be my MiL's only grandchild. Of course they are all excited! Fully understandable!
But yesterday when talking to peting73s cousin, I could hear when she talked that she'd been thinking. A lot. Because she started talking about heredity... and her handicap... and that we shouldn't worry if Nerd Jr ended up like her... because she could help then! And it was all so clear to me that she was seriously worried about this, even if she chimed in all the time that I shouldn't be worried (which I am so not), when it really sounded like she tried to calm herself down and trying to stop worrying about it herself. She is a wonderful woman, despite her handicap, if you know how to deal with her and her quirks (I've learned how to), and it was just so heartbreaking to me to hear her being so very very worried about this, while hiding it (and failing).
She wanted to hang out a bit on Saturday, so I gladly agreed, since I want her to relax at least a little about Nerd Jr and not worry so much. Maybe it helps if she hangs out with me a bit? I sure hope so.
Told peting73 about it, and he whole-heartedly agreed with me. So we'll do our out most to try and make sure Saturday is a good day for her. My ears will probably fall off afterwards, since she loves to talk constantly, but it is a small price to pay. :-)
After the phonecall with her though, I was very reminded about this scene from the movie Forrest Gump. Where Forrest, who has a slight mental handicap, finds out he has a son... and his reaction to it. Pretty much what peting73s cousin dealt with yesterday, I think... Will Nerd Jr be like me? Will KSena and Peting love him/her less then? (Not gonna happen!) Poor woman...
Tom Hanks just breaks my heart everytime I see that scene...
Anyway, so yeah... Nerd Jr effects and touches lives all ready... and she/he isn't even born yet. What will happen I wonder when she/he arrives?
