Hello there! Yes, we are back from vacation, me and
peting73. :-) And it was great. Just what we needed actually. Sweden sure is beautiful. Strange how you can miss the beauty of your own country at times... Well. I sure saw it during this trip. :-)
We started our trip in
Kalmar. Old harbor-city at the east coast of Sweden. It was wonderful! And the hotell we stayed at,
Slottshotellet, was such a beautiful hotel to. Lots of old stuff in that place. Also, it was just at the corner of Old Town of Kalmar, so we took long walks there as well, just to watch all the old buildings and gardens. Wonderful. On the other side of the hotel (the front) the city-park was located, and on the other side of the park was
Kalmar Castle. Yeah. Perfect location. We could walk to the city-center within a few minutes. I loved that hotel.
We stayed two nights in Kalmar. When we got there it was kinda late, so we just walked around town that first evening. The other day, we first checked out the two museums in Kalmar. First
Kalmar Länsmuseum, where they have a big exhibition about the ship
Kronan, that sunk very dramatically outside of Öland 1676. Was very intresting. We also checked out
Sjöfartsmuseet (Seafarers museum). Smaller, but still a very interesting museum. After our visits there, we took a trip to
Öland, the island that is just outside Kalmar. You get there via a loooong bridge. :-) The island is very very small, so we drove around it in one day. That was alot of fun, actually! We stopped here and there. Looking at the famous lighthouses (there is one on each end of the island), and also at the wonderful
Eketorp Fort. That fort was used actively between approximately the years 300-1300... Thats a 1000 years! Pretty cool... Was lots and lots to look at at Öland. We had a great day there. Then, before we left Kalmar, of course we had to visit
Kalmar Castle! Oh, it was wonderful! Such a beautiful castle! I really enjoyed all the exhibitions there, and also to just walk around in the castle. It is a very well-preserved castle.
We traveled on, north by the east coast. On the way we visited
astroflammante, who lives not that far from Kalmar. It was GREAT! So much fun to talk to you again, my friend! You are such a cutie! Good luck with everything, eh? *hugs*
A bit more traveling, and wo got to
Västervik. A bit smaller a city, but still very cozy. Yes, cozy is the word to use here. A coast-city, it to has a lot of interesting seafarer history. And alot of pretty old houses. We stayed at
Pensionat Tobo there (Boarding house Tobo). And MAN! That was such a great place to stay at! So, so pretty! And so, so cozy! Didn't cost much either! In Västervik we just walked around, checked out the old houses, and the small museum. We also took one evening were we truly spoiled our selfs. We located a restaurant that looked nice, called
Smugglaren (the Smuggler). And OH MY GAWD!!! I was in heaven, eating there! Such wonderful food! We ordered a three-course dinner with white wine (Australian wine, Cacadua Ridge. I do recommend it). First coarse was grilled mussels (halstrade pilgrims-musslor) with fennel aioli (med fänkåls aioli). So lovely... Main coarse was whole tuna, grilled, with white wine sauce served with potatoes. Heavenly, I tell you.... As dessert we had apple and nougat roll with vanilla ice-cream. It was... orgasmic at this point, for lack of a better word. Food for the gods, I tell you.
The day after, we started our trip towards home. We made two stops on the way. First one was at
Gränna (famous for there peppermint rocks and that
S.A Andree comes from there. You know, the guy with the Polar Expedition that ended in disaster... I so most see the movie about this with Max von Sydow... The museum about the whole thing was very interesting...). After we had checked out Gränna, we traveled on. To my mother were we stayed one night and hung out with her. Something that made her quite happy. :-) Then there was the last stretch home.
It was a great trip! We had lots of fun and solved problems of the world... or some sort while we were driving. Many miles it was. Funny thing is, we didn't have any music with us. We didn't even listen to the radio during the whole trip... We just talked, discussed, read maps, talked some more.... It was great! We had so much fun! And
peting73 had his new camera with him, so I didn't take many pictures. He, however, took a shit load of pictures! If you wanna see a few of them, you can see them
HERE at his journal. :-)
Back home now, we have just one more plan for our vacation. Or two. Being as lazy as possible. And fix our book-shelfs. I think that would be doable. I don't start to work again until mid-September... ;-)
Oh, and pimpage for
spicehobbit as promised! We talked for... one hour or so in the phone the other day, and a bit of fan-talk also was thrown in the mix. And so, I promised to give links to some of the stuffs we discussed. ;-) Here they are, dear. ;-)
immortal_jedi has written a series of drabbles that are... beyond angsty, really. Creepy and... also a bit of a horror-story, as it turns out. It all starts with an what-if-question. And you all know how much I like those. This one was: What if Elisabeth didn't see young Will at the beginning of Curse of the Black Pearl? The effects of this is long-lasting, I can assure you. It is only drabbles, so no long chapters. And it is almost finished. Just one more drabble to go. Read
The Unraveling Thread right now! It is soooo worth it!
Well, dang it... I know I was to pimp something more for you,
spicehobbit, wasn't I? But now I can't remember what... Jog my memory, will you? :-P
