So last weekend I went down to see Kit (a good time was had by all, etc.), and because I still have no iPod and the drive was more than two hours I needed to make a new mix CD. As usual this was heavily influenced by Recent Events/Obsessions (random 12 back in December was "Life Or Something Like It") so you can imagine what's occurred with this one. I hereby give you "Random 13: Just A Glitch," influenced by my computer being taciturn. Wait, I'm lying.
1. "Willkommen," Alan Cumming - "We are here to serve yooooou!" Shut up, right now. There's little more sublime that singing/talking along with this at 75 mph on I-95. ♥
2.
"Born Too Slow," the Crystal Method - "Just like seventies goofballs he's waiting on last calls..." This was the opening track on my winter '03/'04 which I've since LOST and I spent an hour trying to track down the unedited version. Hence linking to it.
3. "Word Disassociation," Lemon Demon - "Flouncy, panicky, redundant, psychedelic, while, raisin, terrible, abundant, polyurethane, smile." Oh dear
luchia13 how very right you are about this one. I mean,
here, lyrics for the rest of you.
4. "Pull Shapes," the Pipettes - "There's a whole floor before us, just for you and me, So follow my lead, and we'll 1-2-3" I hate all of you, this has been in my head for a good two WEEKS solid.
5. "Round Misnight," Amy Winehouse - So when, when my heart is still with you, it’s so midnight knows it too." I said it was an influence, not an overarching theme. And this song is teh sexay.
6. "Under My Thumb," the Rolling Stones - "It's down to me, the difference in the clothes she wears." See above. Of course the universe needs moar Stones for always.
7.
"Hospital Beds," Cold War Kids - "Bring the buckets by the dozens, bring your nieces and your cousins, come put out the fire on us." This song... oh God. It's somehow infected and infiltrated and hopelessly ingrained itself in the reptilian Glimbrose/Cain corner of my brain. It's all very primordial and made of FLAIL, somehow, both lyrically and musically. Every nuance pings something and it fanvids like CRAZY and that persistent, relentless drum... it's a pulse, a rhythm, a heartbeat, and it KILLS me. And don't get me started on the guitar. Go get listen now OMG.
8.
"Flathead," the Fratellis - "It's just so wrong, so very nice, I told you once and you killed me twice." Meanwhile THIS fucking thing fanvids "15 Annuals" at me like a mad thing. Yes, I can fanvid nonvisual media. And it makes no sense lyrically, but the guitar hook, the cadence, the "bara bap bara ra ra bara bap bara ra ra ra" just screams Lu's Glitch at me, all twisty and nonchalant and plotting to END YOU \o/. I'm... I'm sorry, it can't be helped.
9. "Charade," Henry Mancini - HAHA instrumental. This is from the opening of the painfully wintacular Cary Grant/Aundrey Hepburn film... Charade. Seriously,
best credits evar. 10. "Two Sisters," Fiction Plane - "Take me back to the simple love, I can't dance no more in these murderous gloves, I see, I feel the heartbeat in my brain." Um. Not saying a damn word.
11. "Bury Me With It," Modest Mouse - It actually fanvids very gen for the whole series in my head but oh my God: "Well the suit got tight and it split at the seams. But I kept it out of habit and I kept it really clean. But if it's getting' faded, if it's runnin' outta thread, Could you just do this for me my friend? And please just please bury me with it?"
12.
"Din Din Wo (Little Child," Habib Koite - I have the sneaky feeling this just kinda came with my computer, but I loves it. Lots. It's also... not in English.
13. "A-Punk," Vampire Weekend - "Johanna drove slowly into the city, the Hudson River all filled with snow." This thing is just too damn catchy for its own good, yo.
14. "Original Sin," INXS - "There was a time when I did not care, and there was a time when the facts did stare." Speaking of catchy. I just randomly adore singing this one. We can see my level of tired and enthusiasm slipping away here.
15. "Moonage Daydream," David Bowie - "You're squawking like a pink monkey bird, and I'm busting up my brains for the words." This is some seriously trippy shit right here, but it is made of win and love and Ziggy.
16. "Tick Tick Boom," the Hives - "Exhibit B, what you see, well that's me, I'll put you back in your place." SO much pwnage here, also wonderful for running down the NJ Turnpike's cars-only lanes to. Gleeeee!
17. "Don't Stop Believing," Journey - "Some will win, some will lose, some were born to sing the blues. Oh, the movie never ends, it goes on and on and on and on."Yes, this fanvids "Tin Man" at me too. So very very hard. It's trite and cliche and very silly but I can't help it. At all. *rocks out*
So yeah, giant geek. Sorry.
