A word on Compassion: "Obviously." The Doctor picks her up after the "Interference" books. She's from a "race" for lack of a better term of people who gather all theri information from signals. Radio, TV, other transmissions, etc. Despite her name she's a bit of a cold bitch, but fun. And she says "Obviously" a lot.
"The Taking of Planet Five" - Erm...
Torture! - Held captive a lot.
Sex! - Uh... none.
Angst! - Beh.
Upshot! - If you, like me, are reading it for the walking chimney, then no.
"Frontier Worlds" - Boooya!
Torture! - Has a job inspecting fecal matter. Really. Also, his girlfriend dies.
Sex! - Had a girlfriend named Alura until she got stabbed in the neck.
Angst! - See above. Also spends way too much time hanging around Compassion.
Upshot! - Half the book is told in first person from Fitz' perspective. He uses the alias "Frank Sinatra" and no one notices. GOLD, people.
"Parellel 59" - What is the Matrix?
Torture! - Spends the entire book in a vat of goo halucinating. Really.
Sex! - Is the apex of a lust triangle in hallucinatory magic goo land. Really. One girlfriend dies, the other is arguably the love of his life.
Angst! - Having to cope with everything haveing happened in magical hallucinatory goo land not being "real." Wears stripey PJs.
Upshot! - ...words fail. Yeah, Doc and Compassion run around getting shot at (and being naked for a bit), but Fitzie just gets his head fucked with some more. And Filipa wins.
"The Shadows of Avalon" - Paul Cornell hates Fitz almost as much as Lance Parkin.
Torture! - Being horribly underused.
Sex! - "You know, in the past, whenever thought about being where we aree now, the experience was much mroe pleasurable." - on being inside Compassion
Angst! - Thinking the Doctor's dead/thinking Compassion's dead.
Upshot! - The TARDIS explodes, but don't worry! Compassion, having linked to the TARDIS and uploading all of the details and information on said TARDIS... becomes a sentient, humanoid TARDIS. Really. The Time Lords want her so they can "breed" the new generation of war TARDISes for the Future War with the Enemy. No clue.
"The Fall of Yquatine" - ...don't drop the soap!
Torture! - Goes to prison, gets to play Cassandra to a doomed planet that no one believes is doomed.
Sex! - Hooks up with a princess... but she dies.
Angst! - Trapped on a planet a month before the Doctor is due to arrive/the place blows up, Compassion buggered off, dead girlfriend, prison, etc. Not a good time.
Upshot! - See above, plus some last minute heroing.
(Keri did not procure "Coldheart" or "The Space Age" due to poor reviews.)
"The Banquo Legacy" - Whodunwhat?
Torture! - Stuck in the Victorian era.
Sex! - None.
Angst! - The Doctor's "dead" again, throwing poor Fitz into a morose sulk.
Upshot! - Gloomy, but interesting. In ahistorical novel sorta way.
