my weird reading habits

I just logged in to my Shelfari account for the first time in weeks. My "currently reading" shelf included five books that I had put on there months ago, and that I haven't touched in forever.

I have such a weird relationship with books. I love them, I love reading; I just don't really do "enough" of it. My sizable library is full of books I either haven't read, or read only halfway only to have abandoned. I can't remember the last time I completed a book that I borrowed from the library. I'm currently in possession of two library books and I'm not sure I'm going to finish them.

I don't even necessarily dislike all of the books I don't finish. Not even most of them. (I did recently stop reading the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, though, because I just wasn't that into it.) I just kinda... put them aside, keep them near my bed, think "oh, I should read a chapter or two in that soon," and then I don't. By the time I pick them up again I've gotten so distant from the plot I feel like it's pointless to keep reading from where I left off.

Yet I still keep hoarding books. I go into the library and come out with at least one new piece of reading material that I never get around to reading all the way through. I go to Borders or Barnes & Noble and spend money that I really ought not spend on books that collect dust for ages and ages. My Amazon wishlist continues to grow, and I've even got an LJ "memories" category for books I've seen people discussing in various communities that I want to check out. My to-read pile seems insurmountable. Heh.

I realize there's no requirement for me to finish reading every book that I start. I just wonder what it says about me, I guess.
