little things

Some stuff that's made me smile recently:

- My mom's been sick. One of the first days she started feeling really lousy, I went into the bathroom to discover that she'd moved our respective Dixie cups as far to either side of the sink as was possible. Something about that struck me as really cute and funny.

- Today I went to Wegman's for the first time in ages. It's a local grocery store chain that carries things you probably wouldn't find in other grocery stores. I found the organic section (which made my hippie side extremely happy and which smelled like various hippie-like things) and there was a middle-aged couple wandering around in the "personal care" aisle, picking up random things, making comments about them, and laughing. I sort of assumed they were making fun of the tree-hugger deodorants and the fact that there was incense in a grocery store. The male half of the couple walked past me with the shopping cart after a few minutes and called back to the female, "come on, let's go before we start liking this shit." Our eyes met as he said it, so I think he meant for me to hear it. That made me laugh, and kind of reminded me of something my mom would say. Haha.

- My grandma's whole family is a little nutty. Her one sister, Barbara (we all call her "Bobbie"), is probably most noticeably so, and she's the only one who's officially been diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and probably some other stuff, too. Anyway, the other day Bobbie called up some AM radio station to request a song she likes, and she wanted my grandma to hear it, so she called her. My grandma didn't answer the phone, so Bobbie let the entire song play on the answering machine. I thought that was a riot.

Happy Leap Day! I'm going to see my brother play Friedrich in The Sound of Music tonight, and I can't wait. :)
