Suze Orman is kind of one of my personal heroes. I've been watching her Saturday night show on CNBC--I'm a bit of a nerd for personal finance stuff--since I first discovered it sometime in 2006, and I find her to be a very smart, strong woman who also genuinely cares for the people she's helping. I'm inspired by that. I like her attitude a lot, and I've always admired her short hair.
And now I find out, for the first time, via Wikipedia, that she
came out as a lesbian in February 2007. I seriously had no idea.
Now, I associate with some people who would hear this and be like, "well, the short hair should have tipped you off." Short hair necessarily equals lesbian, apparently.
And that is yet another thing that kinda pisses me off. Well, no. REALLY pisses me off.
I hope no one is offended by this, but like... why do the short-haired women I admire in mainstream media (Suze, Ellen) always have to end up being lesbians?
I definitely have nothing against lesbians. But, hopefully you understand what I'm getting at. Where is the representation in the media for straight women with short hair? Or, hell, even short-haired bisexual women who are partnered with males? The message that I feel this sends to women is that they need to have long, flowing, lustrous hair in order to be attractive to the male sex. And what the hell is that shit? Let's knock it off. Kthxbye.
