1. How dirty is your dwelling right now? How messy is it? Well, the place does need a good cleaning. A couple months ago, my mom killed a centipede on the living room wall and had to use a wet paper towel to clean all the guts off, and it ended up smearing around the 22 years' worth of dirt on the wall, so there's a little smear mark there still that bugs me if I look closely at it. Haha. There's also currently some cat puke on the floor behind me that I need to clean. :P As for messy, well, I seem to have a knack for creating what I like to refer to as "neat piles," heh. There's my two-foot high pile of magazines in the living room, a smaller pile of magazines and books and DVD cases near the couch, a wee pile outside my bedroom door of the few children's books from the spare bedroom that I want to keep, and my bedroom floor is kind of a hodge-podge of CDs and CD cases and books and random papers and various cords...
2. Which part of your dwelling does it drive you crazy to have dirty or messy? Why? Everything that's messy now kind of drives me crazy, but my laziness to clean it up (since it is pretty much all my doing) seems to trump that most days. Haha. I especially hate dirty bathrooms, and I'm kind of anal about that: I have a fondness for cleaning the littlest blemishes off of toilet bowls because it grosses me out. And when I was living at college, I was always aghast at how messy my roommates would leave the bathroom sink and the tub/shower. My first year I was constantly having to pull mass quantities of hair out of the bathtub drain, it was fucking disgusting.
3. Which part of your dwelling does it not drive you crazy to have dirty or messy? Why? I don't really give a shit about my bedroom, although it is pretty tiny so the mess I've got in there now isn't really conducive to, oh, walking around (as much as that small room allows, anyway). Haha. When I was at school my bedroom was frequently a small disaster of dirty dishes and dirty laundry and soda cans and scattered books.
4. Have you ever gotten into conflicts with dwelling-mates over cleanliness? Which side were you on (i.e., "clean freak" or "slob"?) How was it resolved (if at all)? Well, this most recent spring semester at college, I had a tendency to put a dirty dish in the sink, meaning to wash it, and then leave it there for ages. One of my roommates usually ended up washing it. One time, Ashley hung a sign up above the sink saying "DO YOUR OWN DISHES OR THEY'LL BE THROWN OUT!" I assumed it was aimed towards me because I was not part of the fucking clique the rest of them had going on there. A couple days later when I went out to wash all the dishes in the sink (when I did wash dishes, I'd do them all whether they were mine or not, because it seemed pointless to fill the sink up and then leave some dirty in there - I'm very thorough when I *do* clean), I noticed one of my plates had been stuck in the garbage can. Yet one of their pans had been sitting on the counter, filled with water and barbecue sauce, unwashed, for at least two weeks at that point. So I took my plate out of the garbage, washed it and everything else and put away the dishes that were mine, dumped out their pan, stuffed it into the garbage, and took that trash bag out to the dumpster before they could say anything. :D Kind of a passive-aggressive conflict, but I don't care. I had no relationship with them anyway.
5. What inspires you to clean? What makes it harder? Why? Well, if someone's coming to visit (which is rare), that usually gets me going. Otherwise it's just kind of random; I'll just spontaneously get in the mood to toss shit and we end up with a significantly cleaner living-space for it, usually. My laziness and inertia (I hope I'm using that word right?) make it difficult, as well as my disability; I tend to get tired quickly if there's a lot of standing or walking involved, and my mom isn't usually on the same wavelength as I am as far as cleaning, haha, nor does she usually want to do things to my specifications. ;) So I tend to leave things for longer than I probably ought to. But oh well.
Happy birthday,
