The working world

Oct 17, 2005 17:40

So, I've been meaning to post about this for some time, but as we all know, I'm a total slack-ass. Well, I got a job. That's right, a real, adult, applying my degree, salary paying, insurance-retirement-paid vacation days job. I started today. From now on my friends can introduce me with interesting facts a la Bridget Jones'

"This is Kristin, she is the assistant project director for Princeton Media Associates. She hails from Jackson, New Jersey, and squeals at puppies on the tele." *giggle*

Anyway, I finally got around to this post because today was my first day. I hate first days, but I have to say that this one was pretty darn good. I work from 8:30 to 4:30, so I didn't have to get up super early - the place is only 20 miles away. Anyway, I get there, get the tour and whatnot, and ohmygodIhavemyveryownOfficeSpacecubicle. I can already see myself gutting fish on the desk and knocking down carpeted walls with my trusty electric screwdriver. Kidding, kidding, it's nice, but it still gives me visions of "Paper Jam?! There is no fucking paper jam!!"

So, I did some reading up on AMA style first, since, well, I dont really know AMA. But then I got to work on proofing two pieces on epilepsy - one was almost finished so it was more for my benefit, but the other had just come from the MD who wrote it and needed a lot of clean up. I got to change sentences and edit and whatnot, I even got to make a table by interpreting some slides full of names of meds I couldn't comprehend like zambupincopronophinol. Thats not real, but it was just like that, I swear.

But anyway, enough boring work talk. Things went well, everyone was nice, and apparently by tomorrow I will have a permanent cubicle that's mine all mine. Now I just need some witty Dilbert comics to line the walls.
