I have taken up Shibari as a hobie and eventually, if I get good, an art form. So far I really dig the knot work and some of the practical, more sexually bent aspects. I hit the file sharing community and found about 20 videos showing several knots, some body binding and other miscellaneous functional rope works all submitted graciously by the Two Knotty Boys. If your even somewhat interested, the books these guys have put out look like great guides for the beginner and even some advanced techniques. I will be picking them up come next paycheck.
One of my loves inspired my interest through her desire to get tied up in provacative yet restrictive ways and so far it has been an apreciated skill. And while I initially did it for her enjoyment, I find myself really interested in the several directions I can go with this. I love the way you can use the rope to accentuate different parts of the body or to put pressure on various areas depending on how the tied individual moves. I would love to post some pictures but at the moment everything I have is a little too graphic for the internet. :(
I am still very noob and humbled by the complexity and intricacy performed by some of the professional shibari artists. while new, I have been able to do alot with a little bit of knowledge so I am excited to keep learning and that I have personal subjects willing to let me try out new ideas makes this fun.
I just applied to a community and would love to dip into the more artistic and spiritual side. Many of the pictures I have seen of full body tying remind me of a sort of sensory deprivation... this being more of a motion deprivation. I could see a sort of meditative avenue that I would be curious to explore myself however I have yet to find good instruction on how to tie myself up. On a more esoteric note, I could also see this used in more complex knot-work spells. Most of the knot tying magick I studied have been pretty simplistic and my interest has always been passing but now I am perked at the combination of some of the more complex knotts and spiritual workings. More on this at a later time.
We may also be moving our study to the downstairs room which means that our son would be able to go between his room and living room freely making it a little easier for J. to keep up with him. It also means that we can do more spiritual workings in the study with a greater degree of privacy. Up till now I have used the study very little but the knot work might inspire me to use the study a little more often. It's alot of effort but I am looking forward to it.
