Wine on Sundays....

For those of you out of state who don't know, in the state of Tennessee it is illegal for liquor stores to be open and selling on Sundays. You cant even buy beer from the local grocery story on Sundays.

Ok, so we (Jean, Hannah and I) are talking about Jean and I going out to Wal-Mart to grab some diapers. I asked Hannah if there was anything she would like for us to get while we are out.

"A bottle of Sangria but the liquor stores aren’t open... oh well"

That is when I thought out loud "hmm I wonder if they don't sell wine at restaurants on Sundays." I didn’t know but it would seem strange if that wasn’t the case and one step further than that, whether they will sell a bottle of wine to go.

They didn’t think so.

We headed out to west Knoxville to return a computer mouse that ended up sucking... it was cheap so that was my fault. :(

After we dropped off the sucky mouse we got to talking about the wine. So, not even knowing if it was possible I bet her a dollar that I could go to Carraba's (local italian restaurant....goooood good ) and pick up a bottle of wine... She accepted and the bet was on.

I hit Carraba's and ordered an appetizer of calamari and a bottle of wine. They didn't ask any questions. I told them I would be back in 20 minutes.

We hit Kroger’s, picked up some of the preme diapers, a Wired magazine and went back to Caraba's. Sure enough they brought out the food however they added a slight stipulation to the wine. Turns out they have to have opened the wine, resealed it and put it in a sealed back in order to sell it in a "to-go" fashion. I said "sure" and moments later we were on our way with a bottle of wine .... on a Sunday evening. :)

The three of us sat on the floor in the study dipping bread in olive oil soaked herbs (compliments of Caraba's), munching on the best fried squid I have ever eaten and drinking some of the best and most expensive wine I think I have ever bought. $28 for a bottle of Saint M Riesling from Germany but it was worth the money not only to find a loophole in the system but also because it was a damn good wine.

It was a good Sunday evening dinner.
