Finally, it only took 17 days, but Australia now has a government again!
Julia Gillard is our PM (again)
The three independents who decided which party to support finally announced their decisions today, although a last minute split in there ranks saw Bob Katter side with the Liberal party/ Coalition (Abbott) whilst Tony WIndsor and Rob Oakshott sided with Labor (Gillard)...
Here are some things I found quite interesting with this whole election campaign and the negotiations since then:
Both Gillard and Abott were born in the UK. Most Aussies knew that Gillard was born in Wales, but I do not think many knew that Abbott was born in London. I wonder if her birthplace effected the way people voted?
The Coalitions costings debacle, seriously that was bad, and a I think will be a nightmare in the next election if either Abbott or Hockey are leaders at the time.
Bob Katter's Regional issues, I was very ignorant of regional issus before this negotiation period, now I am not. Seriously, Suicide rates, Food imports, even the amount of sugar mills shocked me. I hope this regional package that the independents have worked out will have some effect.
How much of an idiot the Liberal/National party members are, not just Tony Abbott, but Barnaby Joyce and Peter Dutton. To be honest, I thought they were idiots before, but now my thoughts have been proven (at least in my eyes). Also to be honest, I do not really know many Liberal/.National party members but from those I have seen, I think Turnball is the only one I actually like.
There is heaps more, but Julia Gillard is about to give her press conference and I want to watch!
