No More Summer Job

Jun 25, 2007 17:41

So I was excited about my job at first. Then I really realized what I would be doing at my job. Then I tried my job. Then I quit my job. No more working for Environment California! In case anyone at all is remotely interested, here is the speech we had to do when we knocked on people's doors.

Hi how are you today?

My name is Krystin and I'm with Environment California.

Right now we are working for clean energy.

You may know that California is a national leader in promoting clean energy such as wind and solar power. This helps us fight global warming and makes us more energy independent. And now with new leadership in Congress, there is national momentum for following our lead.

And now we are working to pass a bill that will commit the whole country to making at least 20% of its electricity from clean sources by 2020.

We can do this by continuing to build public support. That's why we're here today.

This is our statement of support. *hands over clipboard* It outlines our work.

The best way for you to support this effort today is to become a member of Environment California. You can do this either through our monthly giving program or a one-time contribution. Monthly giving is better for us because it keeps our costs down and gives us ongoing support, but either way is great. The most important thing is that you give as generously as you can so we can keep getting results.

Well, at least I get paid for 2 days of work. And quitting seemed like a much better idea than getting fired, because I would have. There was no way that I would have made quota ($120 from people on one day. Yeah, my first full day I knocked on over 150 doors, talked with 40-50 people, and made zero dollars.)

Time to look for an internship or another job, and of course, an apartment...
