Today really wound me up...
I woke up late and so had about 15 minutes to get up, eat breakfast, get dressed, pack my bag and leave the house .Which I usually give myself 30 - 60 minutes to do. So I got in the car all a fluster and found myself speeding a few times as I went to the tube station >_<
Class wasn't so bad, except for the fact that, of a class of 30, barely 10 people showed up, half of which were late, and the lecturer wasn't in the best of moods - probably not helped by me occasionally dozing off at the back of the class.
The big wind up was when I went down to the lab to do the work I'd be planning for weeks. Now, for today I needed three things that I thought I had sorted, or at least got other people working on so that I could get coursework done over the weekend. These things were not hard. 1. get the oil and pigment to make the flow visualisation mixture - I went down the lab last week and spoke to the technician about the stuff I needed. We rummaged around in the store cupboard and we found oil and pigment, 2. get a piece of wood in the wind tunnel to test the mix on, 3. paint the model that the flow visualisation will actually be done on black.
Issue number 1. The model still hadn't be painted black and while this wasn't dire in the mechanics of playing around with the oil, it's bloody annoying, I've been pushing to get this painted since January, 2. We had to wait for the technician to go and get a piece of wood, screw it to another bit of wood and then screw it into the wind tunnel working section base, the guy I'm working with has been telling and reminding the technician that'd we'd be down since last week , 3. We had the wrong oils. I didn't know and the technician didn't notice. It was only after 2-3 hours of us mixing up oil and power when we grabbed our supervisor that we found out it was wrong. And finally 4. The oils we were using stank and I've been feeling queasy since we started mixing the oils with the pigments... which was 9 hours ago... and I still don't feel great.
So I've got to go buy linseed oil or rapeseed oil tomorrow as something to stop the pigment clumping together in our mixture and the guy I'm working with has to get paraffin or petrol so that on Friday, we can actually get this flow visualisation done.
Once this is done, I'm done with all my lab work for my dissertation/thesis/final year project and it's just the write up that I'm left with... and there's only 3 weeks of term left and then 2 weeks after that till the final deadline for this work. And I'm gonna need most of that time to do the write up.
If it wasn't for the fact that jobs are so hard to come by at the moment, I'd so be looking forward to uni ending and getting my degree.
