Satoshi sat in the corner of the parlour sipping on a fruit cordial and staring nervously at the door. Around him were people that he didn’t know and already Julia had been given things that would be a whole lot more meaningful and worth more than the few coppers that he had given for the rose bush and he had hidden it away ashamed of the cheap gift. Julia was looking radiant as she talked to Masaki and a man that had been waiting for him when they had returned home. The man was good looking in a dark grey suit that was even more expensive than the clothes that Kenta wore but he looked genuinely happy whenever he looked at Masaki. Satoshi suspected that this was the bank manager that Masaki had spoken about if it was then he was very fortunate.
“Satoshi, come here I want you to meet Masaki and his boyfriend Sakurai Sho”
“We’ve already met, ne, Satoshi? I went to surprise Nino in the village and there was a misunderstanding…” Masaki laughed brightly and Satoshi couldn’t help but scowl at the man muttering darkly;
“You kissed the princess…”
“Only on the cheek! It was all just a joke!” Masaki said hurriedly looking at the man that he had brought with him. The bank manager smiled rolling his shoulders in a gesture that suggested that he wasn’t overly fussed about it as he was confident in his love for him. Satoshi felt another ping of jealousy but it was cut short by the door opening with a loud bang and Nino coming into the room with a rather large box in his hands along with a brown wrapped parcel settled on the top.
“You’re as annoying as ever!” Nino growled glaring at the older man who just gave a giggle stepping closer to his lover as Nino walked over to him looking completely unfazed by their earlier argument “Miss Ohno said that she was going to give you this, it was Bernard’s art stuff…You ran out of the shop before she could give it to you though…”
“Oh…Um…Right…” Satoshi replied not knowing what else to say surprised that Nino wasn’t still upset or angry that he had refused him of course it was completely possible that Nino had realised that what he had said was right but Satoshi didn’t want to believe that, though he thought he was completely selfish for thinking that. “I…Um…”
“She said that there wasn’t much paper or any pencils so um I went…I brought…Here…” Nino pushed the brown paper parcel at him almost roughly and it took an effort on Satoshi’s part to catch it before it fell onto the floor. Slowly Satoshi unwrapped it discovering a tin case of pencils and a fold of thick parchment paper that crinkled in his hands when he touched it and for a moment Satoshi was reminded of the days when his parents had paid the penny for him to go to school and he had been allowed to draw. It was never anything impressive but the teacher had encouraged him to do it and had always smiled at his pictures. Of course those days were few and far between and he had almost forgotten about it until he had come here and he had been allowed to doodle. He had never expected anything as fine as this. “I’m sorry, Satoshi…I…Probably scared you ne…but the truth is I do love you…But I can wait until you think that you could love me as well…”
