Do I like that?
They were just four words, simple harmless words, but each one cut into Ohno Satoshi like a knife stabbing at his heart and twisting it around and leaving him feeling like he just had a hole in his chest. More so when they came out of the mouth of his lover Ninomiya ‘Nino’ Kazunari. They had been together since high school sharing the bad times and good but a car accident had all but destroyed that. His body was healing but his mind was completely blank with barely any memories of his life and none whatsoever of his relationship. Ohno was trying his best to help him remember but it was hard going and there were some days when he went home and cried himself to sleep.
Currently they were sitting in the bedroom that Nino had been brought up in but hadn’t lived in for five years. Everything had been put exactly the way that he had been able to remember but for Ohno it was just another reminder that he had lost the man that he loved.
“What is this?” Nino asked looking at the speaker that was currently playing their song. It was the song that had been playing at their school disco and then again when they had moved in together and currently it was the ringtone that Nino had set on both their phones.
“It’s called the first time I ever I saw your face…By Roberta Flack…” Ohno answered hoping for some sign of recognition in his face.
"Oh...and do I like that?" Nino asked his head tilting to one side a frown caressing his forever young forehead and a pout forming over his thin mouth. Ohno smiled and gave a nod his heart breaking just a little. He really had hoped that playing the song would spark something inside of him.
"You love it, it's your favourite song..." He whispered in reply but Nino’s frown got deeper as he tilted his head to one side and listened to more of the soft music.
"But it's in English...Can I understand that?”
“No…But you know this song…” Ohno sighed the lyrics of the song washing over him remembering the school dance. Nino had been wearing skin tight jeans and a t-shirt and shirt combination that looked like it had been designed for him. They hadn’t been there together, at least not officially, but for some reason that song had come on and Nino had turned to him mouthing every line perfectly before kissing him slowly in front of everybody there. It had been an amazing moment for him but now Nino had forgotten.
“Is it a sad song?” Nino asked slowly and Ohno blinked looking at him with a frown as he shook his head and whispered;
“No, why would you think that?”
“Cause you look sad…” Nino answered pressing the repeat button when the song ended and Ohno shook his head slowly trying his best to smile.
“It’s a love song…” Ohno told him knowing the words by heart but only because Nino had told him them so often that they were imbedded into his brain.
“…Tell me what it means…” His lover said slowly pouting and Roberta Flick began to sing her song again and Ohno nodded coming to kneel in front of him his hand on his thigh and rubbing them up and down as he began to sing;
"The first time, ever I saw your face, I thought the sun rose in your eyes, and the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave to the dark, and the endless skies…” Ohno was surprised Nino’s expression changed slowly from inquisitive to confused while his lips stuck out in a pout “And the first time, ever I kissed your mouth I felt the earth move in my hands like the trembling heart of a captive bird that was there, at my command, my love…And the first time, ever I lay with you I felt your heart so close to mine and I knew our joy would fill the earth and last, ‘til the end of time, my love…”
“Ohno…Do I like you?” Nino whispered slowly as the song came to an end and Ohno was surprised to see that he was crying. His tears were thick and fast down his cheeks and chin and slowly Ohno nodded feeling his eyes stinging with his own tears.
“Yes, you do…”
“I wish I could remember…”
Ohno moved forward and wrapped his arms around him squeezing him tightly as he kissed his neck happy that for this moment Nino remembered that he liked him. It might not be much but it was a huge leap forward for him and Ohno hoped that it was just the beginning.
“You will…” Ohno told him “But even if you don’t I’ll just make you fall in love with me again…”
