You are my tomorrow part 127

Nino waited anxiously for Ohno’s judgement. He knew how this looked. He was unharmed leaving a castle where he had spent three weeks. Of course people would think of him as being suspicious or maybe even in league with Matsumoto and Akaike and given that he had stated that he had just saved Matsumoto’s life he couldn’t blame them for thinking that. He only hoped that Ohno would believe him. The lord stared at him for an impossibly long time and then whispered;

“…You should rescue even such patients as you dislike or hate… Seventeen Rules of Enjuin…”

“Y-Yes…” Nino nodded slowly in agreement his eyes sparking with tears of relief as he was suddenly pulled against his lover’s chest and held in a tight embrace. He could feel the warmth of him seeping through the thick robe that Akaike had given him to wear. His arms reached around the man’s stomach over the thick armour he was wearing as he cried. He had been more terrified than he had been able to admit for the last three weeks but now he was back in the arms of his lover and he was able to realise just how close he might have been to death. Ohno’s arms gripped him even more tightly moving him away from the exposed path as he asked;

“Did he do anything to you? Anything at all…”

“…He…He kissed…Me…But other than that…He…Seemed afraid of me…” Nino admitted remembering Akaike’s attitude towards him after he had performed CPR. He had been watchful and wary of him only every really talking to him when he had to. His eyes had followed him more than once though and there had been a time when he had been in the bath that the man had watched him carefully washing his body. He could still feel those eyes on him now and he pushed it away remembering that Akaike had left when he had insisted on it “He thinks that I can make deals with death…I brought Matsumoto back as I did Jun and he believes that I spoke to death and brought his lord back from the beyond…”

“Why bring him back at all?” A cold voice asked from the crowd of soldiers that were around them and Nino looked up seeing that Jun and the others were silently asking the same question. He knew that for these men who had clearly spent months in war with the man that he had just saved. They had lost friends and possibly loved ones but he was a healer it was the one thing that he could cling on to right now and he was determined to do so.

“…I am a healer…My lord understands this…I heal people…Regardless of where their loyalties lie…I know that may be difficult for you to understand but…My job is to save lives…I cannot leave…”

“I know…” Jun said slowly with something close to a smile forming on his lips as he reached out and ruffled what he could reach of his hair. “You saved my life even when I hated you…”

“And I would do the same for anyone…” Nino breathed flushing at the smile that twisted the scars on his face but made him seem almost attractive. Ohno’s arms tightened around him again drawing him ever closer to his body before he purred in his ear;

“Of course…You told me that you would save even my enemy if you were able to do so...Your calling is to save lives and it is something that you do well…And now Matsumoto and Akaike both owe you a life debt…Come let us go home…”
