Ohno had something of a spring in his step as he walked into the hospital that Nino had created in his room. For the first time in his life things seemed as they were going his way. If he were a poetic man he would have sworn that the world suddenly had a rosy pink hue all around it. The world was bright and airy and he could smile without fear or guilt. His mood dampened when he saw that there was no sign of his lover within the walls of his hospital. The two apprentices were there and the little girl that Nino seemed to have adopted and her face brightened as she saw him a smile forming on her cute little cherub lips as her arms outstretched.
“Papa!” She called and Ohno found his mouth twisting back into a smile as he reached out and scooped her up into his arms holding her close as he pressed a little kiss to her cheek. He had been shocked and confused when he had first heard her call him that but he had to admit that he enjoyed it and she nestled perfectly onto his hips as he held her asking;
“Where’s Dadda?”
“Dadda gone way!” Yurara announced dramatically waving her hands as the male apprentice puffed up his chest with pride saying;
“The healer was called away, there was an accident…”
“What accident? Where…?” Ohno asked his eyebrows drawing together an annoying little pulse at the back of neck telling him that there was something not quite right with this. He had just come from the barracks and nobody had mentioned anything about an accident to him. Of course it could have come from the village so there was no point panicking yet. He told himself with a mild buzz of disbelief the boy froze a little and then looked to the girl who had been preparing bandages. Her lips pursed together and her own eyebrows where drawn as she whispered;
“A guard came and said that there was an accident and that the healer should come quickly…I asked where the other guards were, because they would normally talk to Sensei if there’s a problem but he ignored me…” The girl pulled a face indicating that she hadn’t enjoyed that and Ohno could understand why. Nino had put a lot of hours into making sure that she was treated with as much respect as he and the boy were and Ohno had tried to do his part with that also “I didn’t like the way he looked, my lord…His eyes they seemed harsh…Even when he was pleading…And…And he said that you had been hurt…”
“I see…Some people can look harsh…But we shouldn’t judge him too harshly…Not yet…” Ohno said though inside his heart was freezing as much as the grounds outside were. The tremble of fear was growing inside of him and he carefully squeezed the girl close and then put her down on the floor his hand ruffling the soft hair that she had now. “I will go and see what I can make of it…You…You go and tell Sho and Jun…Everything…Exactly as you told it to me and tell them both to meet me at Masaki’s inn…Do you understand?”
“Yes, my lord!” The girl nodded bowing her head before running out of the hospital clearly understanding that this was serious.
