Nino just barely stopped the shudder that wanted to run down his spine, and asked calmly “How long have you been waiting there?”
“Awhile” Mr Matsumoto answered with a smile, “I wasn’t sure when you would go to see him, but I suspected that you would…”
“And who am I going to see?” Nino asked stiffly, suddenly wondering why he felt like he was cheating on Matsu.
“Please, my lady, credit me with some small amount of intelligence, you were on your way to see your former husband, now why would you be sneaking out of your own apartment so early in the morning to see the man that you betrayed with my great uncle?”
“Because Raiden and I are friends,” Nino answered calmly forcing his eyes to stay filtered “And please as we are related call me Nino…”
“’Nino’?” Mr Matsumoto said with a confused expression
“My nickname, my name before I bonded to your son was Ninomiya” Nino explained
“I see, thank-you, Nino,” Mr Matsumoto seemed almost delighted by that, it was as if he thought Nino was falling for a trap.
“So why are you so concerned about my visiting Raiden?” Nino said loving the obvious reaction every time he said the name ‘Raiden’. It was almost like a physical blow and Nino guessed that before they were put to sleep the lord had punished them in some unforgettable way. Mr Matsumoto seemed able to keep his cool though and gave a smile.
“I’m sorry, I meant no offense, but when I heard that you had named your child after the lord I became concerned for my only son” He said so smoothly it would almost be believable. Nino flashed a smile
“And as I have a bad track record with faithful marriages…” He said and Mr Matsumoto nodded looking slightly apologetic
“I’m sorry…”
“No, its fine, I understand… But you must know that I betrayed Raiden with Junichi, so I can’t figure out why I would betray Jun since I’ve already died for him” Nino said trying to sound as… Diplomatic as possible, Mr Matsumoto’s eyes flashed and his lips curled into an almost sneer, it only lasted for a second but Nino’s sharp eyes caught it, and he knew from Matsu had told him that his parents didn’t believe that Rosa hadn’t died for Junichi but because they were planning to over throw the lord. Mr Matsumoto’s face relaxed back into his smile,
“Yes, of course, but you can understand my concern… You are a parent yourself…”
“Yes I understand” Nino said his eyes almost flashing lightly, relieved that Mr Matsumoto hadn’t picked up on it. “I’m sorry but I have to go…”
“Of course” He said still with the sickly sweet voice. Nino gave a quick bow and hurried away, aware that his eyes were still on him. Matsu woke slowly as he heard Raiden give a cry, “Kazu…” He mumbled, his hand touching the empty side of the bed, a cold chill ran down his spine and he sat up quickly his blood running cold when his eyes confirmed that Nino wasn’t in the bed. Raiden seemed to pick up on his emotions and stopped crying to look up at him, his eye shining with tears, “Where’s Mama?” Matsu asked trying to stay calm, he couldn’t understand why he was so afraid anyway, it hadn’t happened for a while but sometimes Kazu would go out to, meet Aiba or to go to an arcade, since Raiden though it had never happened and with his parents awake and roaming around Matsu wanted him where he could see him at all times. If Matsu was calm he would have remembered that as the former lady, there was no doubt that Nino would be able to take on even both his parents but that rational thought didn’t even make it into his mind as he grabbed Raiden and marched into the living room to grab his phone, the hair going up on the back of his neck as had the over whelming scent of his father near the entrance of the apartment, that could have been easily from last night, but it was too strong and to clear for it to be residual. He pulled opened the door almost growling when he saw his father standing there about to knock. “What are you doing here?” He snapped “And where’s Kazu?”
“Nino? He has just left to see… The lord” His father said gently, and then stopped his eyes widening a little “He hasn’t told you? Oh dear… I hope I haven’t said something I shouldn’t”
“I don’t see why you shouldn’t, Kazu is allowed to see who he wants” Matsu said hiding the jealousy he felt and quickly walking away and leaving the door open even though he wanted to slam it shut Mr Matsumoto gave a laugh that sounded almost as irritating a nails being scraped across a chalkboard. “What?”
“As long as you trust him” Mr Matsumoto said holding up his hands in an innocent way,
“Of course I trust him, why wouldn’t I?” Matsu growled glaring at him as he grabbed some of Nino’s blood that they kept for Raiden, he warmed it slightly in a device that was like a bottle sterilizer, but it would never be seen in a human kitchen. In a vampire kitchen it was as used as much as a kettle in the mornings. Although the blood could be drank a room temperature, it was nice for it to be warm Matsu smiled as he thought that it had been a while since he and Nino drank fresh blood, although with the baby it would have been almost too easy for them to get women, though Nino almost exclusively preferred to drink from men, saying that it tasted better, showing that even as a human Nino was gay. As a vampire gender had never mattered to Matsu, for either blood or sex but after dating and marrying Nino he too had a developed a taste for male blood too and doubted he’d either get aroused if he saw a naked woman anymore. He blinked and came back to his senses as he remembered that his father was still in the room staring at him with his deep orange eyes. A younger vampire would have found it rude to keep their eyes unfiltered but his father was of a different generation that delighted in the colours of their eyes that marked them as being different from humans.
“Well, there is the fact that he… As Rosa doesn’t have the best track record with fidelity…”
“Are you trying to suggest my husband is cheating on me?” Matsu asked and his father held up his hands
“Of course not, I wouldn’t even dream of suggesting something, or anything like that” he said silkily, and Matsu sighed biting the blood pack and pouring it into the yellow bottle. Raiden knew that colour bottle meant that it was his ‘Mama’s’ bottle and his eyes were shining as Matsu held it to his mouth, Matsu laughed as the baby tried to grab and hold the bottle by himself “I’m sure you know him best”
“Yes I do” Matsu snapped his eyes flashing purple as he looked up at him. His father gave a laugh,
“I knew you were Junichi when I first saw those purple eyes looking up at me… And I knew you were special…I did everything for you, and then you went and betrayed me becoming an elder…” He said his voice coming out as a growl and then he blinked quickly his smile returning “At least that’s how I felt at the time. My time asleep has made me realise that I was wrong and you were right and I meant what I said, I will serve you as my elder and of course I will serve your son”
“And Kazu…”
“We’ll see” he smiled “But judging from what I have heard… That Nino has just accepted becoming the second lord again… He and the lord will be spending a lot of time together…”
“Kazu isn’t like that” Matsu said confidently.
“No, but Rosa did insist on naming the child Raiden…”
