Holy Bad Idea, Batman!!

So I've been working my way through the archives at passive-agressive notes.com, when I came across this doozy. Note to the non-IT techs here: the reason that computer nerds stereotypically wear cardigans is that computers do not like heat. ideally, you want it around 10c/50F in your server room (or colder) but that is a bit low to ask your workers to cope with for eight hours straight, so the room is usually set to a compromise of about 15c or so, and then the techs just wear a cardigan to make up the difference.

Also, computers produce a fair amount of heat on their own, and the fans are there to blow air across the particularly heat-sensitive components, like, well, pretty much everything, but especially the CPU. But if the air surrounding the computer isn't cooler than the air inside the case, then no heat exchange can take place. Humans can cool off in a breeze on a hot day even if the breeze isn't cold because we sweat, and cool down via evaporation.

Computers don't weat.

So, with that background, may I, with a wince, present to you:

Just in case this site hasn’t given you enough reasons to think twice before leaving a passive-aggressive note, Tobjar in Oakland, California passes along this cautionary tale from worsethanfailure.com:

Not too long ago, there was a small furor in the local media about a major disaster at The State’s Technology Services Division.…When employees of The State came in to work following a three day weekend, they found their workstations overloaded with “cannot logon” and “Exchange communication” error messages. The Network Services folks had it even worse: the server room was a sweltering 109° Fahrenheit and filled with dead or dying servers….They worked day and night to order new equipment, build new servers, and restore everything from back-up. Countless overtime hours and nearly two hundred thousand dollars in equipment costs later, they managed to bring everything back online. When the Exchange servers were finally restored, the following email finally made its way to everyone’s inbox:

As for the employee who sent it, he decided to take an early retirement.

Holee crap. O_O Dude. Just... don't. Gods.
