Not quite out of here yet (leaving tonight), but I wanted to pop in quickly to mention one thing. I imagine the Americans are quite tired of their election (I know I'm getting sick of hearing about it, heh), and there's still months to go before the election.
Over the last week or so there have been rumours of the pending announcement of a federal election, all of which have been denied by the feds. Well, I heard on the radio on Friday that the Prime Minister will be approaching the Speaker of the House today for permission to run an election. The election itself will be held Oct. 14.
That's October 14, 2008, folks. Just under a month and a half between an election being announced and it actually being held.
Sweet.
There are a lot of things I don't like about the way Canadian elections are run, but I do like the paper-and-pencil ballots (no electronic voting! No chads!) and the brevity.
Thank the gods, the brevity. XD
Cheers, all!
