The Serenity screening? Fabulous. Portlanders are more awesome than I gave them credit for.

The theater wasn't quite sold out, but it was pretty full. They opened the doors at one, and people just sort of milled around, got seats, and bought stuff for an hour until two. They then did a little intro, talked about Equality Now, and showed this video on the big screen. Then they had a guy talk about the Women's Film Initiative (where 10% of Portland proceeds were going). Then they got to the raffle. The raffle tickets were about a buck a piece (6 for $5 and 12 for $10, and I got six), and they sold nearly a thousand (?!?!), which makes for a great profit alone. There was a great moment when they were raffling off a gift certificate to some coffee shop with 'space monkeys' in the name, and some guy yells out "terrifying space monkeys"... and everybody got the joke.

I didn't win anything (I bought a shirt, though!), but they raffled off some pretty great stuff.

Then? Well, then there was the movie, of course. God, it was fantastic. Obviously, I'd never seen Serenity on the big screen, so that was awesome in and of itself. But with a ton of other fans? It was amazing. They were silent at the right times, they laughed at the right times, they gasped at the right times (LOL), and they clapped at the right times. There were some hardcore Jayne fans who did a lot of cheering in the beginning, which was hilarious. We did a lot of applauding, mostly during the Alliance/Reaver face-off and while River was kicking Reaver ass. Also, at the end, of course.

Also, the cast is so much prettier on the big screen. I swear. (Alan Tudyk? GUH!) And the Reavers are equally scarier. It was also my first time seeing Sarah Paulson in her Serenity role since I watched Studio 60, and I still could barely recognize her. (Her acting in Serenity is great, by the way.)

But yeah, it was a blast. I hope some of you went to screenings. If not, try next year. It's so much fun.
