I have to catch up on campaign logs sometime soon. A lot has happened since the attack on Harker's Ferry. Our group has finally reached level 11 -- our first Paragon tier characters in more than two years of 4th edition.

The party has been to White Plume Mountain and back with three artifact weapons -- Whelm, Wave, and Blackrazor -- in hand. They also gained a new party member in the dragonborn barbarian Prax.

Last night the heroes began to battle their way into the holy city of Rel Astra, which is currently under siege by Yeenoghu's legion of gnolls and demons. During an encounter with a gnoll general and his demonic servants, Prax unsheathed Blackrazor and used it against the Abyssal invaders.

As the dragonborn landed a killing blow against one of the demons, he felt its devoured soul essence empower him. Unfortunatly, it also seized hold of his psyche and forced him to charge at the nearest creature: Drenden. One critical hit later, Drenden was dead and his soul was consumed and utterly destroyed by Blackrazor.

While it is a shame that one of the three remaining "originals" that started this campaign is dead, some pretty intense roleplaying is going to come from this scene. Vale had all but begged Prax not to use Blackrazor, but the barbarian chose to ignore the paladin's urging and drew the evil sword anyway. There will be definite backlash!

Once Rel Astra is liberated from the Butcher's invading hordes, I believe I know the next turn in the campaign (should the players decide to follow this path): Learn how Keraptis forged Blackrazor and find a way to destroy it. Unfortunately for the heroes, they already know where Keraptis learned many of his greatest arcane secrets -- from an ancient lich named Acererak, who lurks in the depths of a dungeon called the Tomb of Horrors.
