food

As may be obvious, food is a big deal to me. It is a major art form, a way to be creative, a way to entertain friends and family. But, it's also medicine. I deal with high blood pressure as my parents (genes? - what's the advantage?). Anyway, there are several foods that portend to help with the issue. Celery and cocoa have a decent amount of proper reviewed literature and accordingly I have experimented on myself over the last year. The good news is that I really like both so I'm enjoying this. Of course it takes more than trivial amounts to achieve significant physiological effects. You need about 6 oz (170g) of celery and 4-5 tbsp of cocoa (25g). This is quite a bit. Considering I avoid sugar, I've been having the cocoa in my coffee without sugar and it's quite good. I just eat the celery for breakfast - it's mindless and I like it. The good news is that it has quite a decent effect and significantly reduces my blood pressure. But what I mostly wanted to point out was how little there was to celery. I figured I was getting all this fiber but no, my 2 cups of celery gives me only 2.7g of fiber while my 5 tbsp of cocoa gives me nearly 10g of fiber - oh my! I need to publish this high fiber cocoa diet...
