That Sacred First Tuesday of November.

As I sit in the laundry room, talking to my roommate, I hear sounds of excitement. Sounds like someone is banging a pot with a spoon. Chanting. Laughing. Screaming. My roommate and I went out side to see a group of students, running up and down the parking lot screaming, "Obama!!!" I turned to her and said, "The results couldn't be in yet, could they?" Well, they weren't but at that time, Obama had some 290 votes and 270 was enough. I felt fairly neutral when it came to the election, but I couldn't help feel excited, and a little emotional.

Earlier that day I was in Rose eating and watching the election day stuff on tv. They showed a clip of Obama with his wife and kids at the polls voting. I got a little choked up. Those kids...wow...they got to see their dad's name on the ballot. Do they really understand? I just think of all the struggles minorities have had...Africans, Latino, Japanese, the Irish...
It's just emotional I guess.

Waves of fear also spread through me. I'm afraid of something bad happening to Obama and/or his family. His girls are so young.

I don't have cable and channel 12 barely comes in with the antennae up...so I got on CNN and watched live streaming video and listened to CNN radio so I could hear Obama's speech. I kind of sat there wondering what kind of turning point this is going to bring. Will my father get a job back? Am I going to be able to afford college? Will gay couples be allowed to get married? What about abortion (which i'm against...just sayin)...Immigration laws? Will a rise in taxes for Obama's programs be too much for us? Will we get out of this economic mess?

Nothing will happen over night. Or maybe in even a year or more. But I'm excited and scared of the future, and I think that would have been the case with whomever would have won, although I feel like there's an added sense of pride when I found that Obama won.

I was talking to a friend, and I asked him how he felt, "I'm proud to be an American," he said. "For the first time in 6-8 years."
