GRRM is Not Your Bitch. And Neither is Damon Lindelof?

I've been thinking about LOST a decent amount over the past couple of weeks. It's been about a year since the show ended, and I miss it.

Then today I stumbled onto this article at io9: Why GRRM is Wrong About the Ending of LOST.

Essentially, GRRM said he didn't want to his A Song of Ice and Fire to end like LOST did - which he likened to a giant turd on his doorstep. He liked LOST, was a fan of it, but the finale pissed him off. (He thought that everybody was dead the whole time? Really? I've got to wonder if that's somehow a misquote...)

Damon Lindelof, co-creator of LOST, who incidentally was reading GRRM's Game of Thrones at the time he stumbled upon Martin's interview, jumped on Twitter and said...a whole lot of stuff. See below for some choice bits:

"In related news, my therapist just hit the jackpot"
"George? You got yourself a feud, motherf-ker"
"I’ve just been informed George is working on his feud response. I’ll have it in FIVE YEARS!"

There's an interiew at EW with Lindelof about the whole thing (really disappointing that couldn't get GRRM too) that I found interesting. In it, Lindelof mentions how much he (still) is enjoy reading Game of Thrones and how much as a kid he enjoyed reading the Wild Cards books. And how getting criticized by someone you respect sucks so very much.

So. Wow? It's always strange watching something like this go down between two people you respect. I'm not really sure what I think about all this. Is it another course in How Not to Respond to Criticism? Maybe, but I don't think so. I genuinely chuckled at some of Lindelof's responses, and can understand how someone you respect calling that thing you invested six years of your life on "a turd" must sting.

OTOH, you can't please everyone. You try to do the best you can?

I dunno. Thoughts?

grrm, lost
